Charles Dance, who plays Tywin Lannister in HBO’s TV adaptation of George R R Martin’s A Son of Ice and Fire, Game of Thrones, will have a role in CD Projket RED’s upcoming RPG sequel The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
According to VG247, Witcher 3 lead writer Marcin Blacha called the casting a “dream come true”.
Dance will be playing the role of Emperor Emhyr var Emrei of Nilfgaard. It’s an interesting piece of casting, as Dance plays a similarly powerful but complex “villain” in Game of Thrones – and like Martin’s series, the Witcher universe tends to lean towards complicated characters rather than black and white goodies-and-baddies. Hopefully Dance can lend his talents to bringing the Niflgaardian ruler to life as more than just a villainous antagonist.
When we left The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, Nilfgaard had made serious inroads to the north of the major continent. In The Witcher 3, it controls an area called No Man’s Land which you may remember as rather a grim region; it was featured in the Killing Monsters trailer.
The Witcher 3 is due in 2014, which cannot come soon enough.
