Batman: Arkham Origins will use Steamworks instead of GFWL

Batman: Arkham Origins

Oh happy day! Last week we learned that Microsoft were doing away with the Games For Windows Marketplace and while we all appreciated that one GFWL Marketplace sale of Age of Empires III Complete for $0.75 USD, I don’t think many people were upset.

And now, furthering the rumours that GFWL will be closing down as a service as well, IGN are reporting that Warner Bros. will not use Microsoft’s service for Batman: Arkham Origins like they did with the PC versions of Arkham Asylum and Arkham City – they will use Steamworks instead. I might actually 100% Arkham Origins now, instead of just sobbing uncontrollably when I upgrade my video card and all of my save games break.

This GFWL situation will need to be watched however, particularly if the rumours of DLC previously only available through GFWL being released elsewhere are true. Given how the PC port of Dark Souls was treated, it’s worrying to think about it requiring a rebuilt online component.

It’s nice to be able to wipe one of my concerns about Batman: Arkham Origins off the list before it releases on October 25th though.

Good!

I thought that the AOE3 sale was for $0.10.

Either way, looks like GFWL is going the way of the dodo (and not before time too).

As the be expected ;)

PalZer0,

I think you’re right – I remember now that I was almost going to give up after spending 10 minutes just trying to sign in, but the price was too low for me to quit.

GfWL is bareable because it, for the most part work, works. It is the SecuROM on the physical copy that will be the killer…

yeah the secuROM was the biggest pain in the ass. Windows live doesn’t bother me all that much. But yeah, steamworks is a much better choice :D

Obligatory Mellie-Post to say I LOVE GFWL AND YOU ARE ALL WRONG.

If we are wrong I’m sure we don’t want to be right…
