A patch just released an hour ago for Team Fortress 2 brings together all of the changes discussed during the week, including changes to key maps and the tweaking of some of the most popular (and unpopular) weapons.

The new patch weighs in at 875MB and brings 60 new Gold Star community items, Summer Cooler keys, a slew of bugfixes, and changes to popular maps including Dustbowl, Badlands, Egypt, Gravelpit, Granary and Badwater.

If you’d like to play Team Fortress 2 with us, why not come along to one of our regular Community Game Nights? Get all the details in this thread (alternatively you can jump onto our servers anytime!).

Did it remove free to play? No? Still no desire to return.

What’s your beef with that? It’s kept the game strong for over 6 years now and has no signs of slowing down. I think it’s a great thing for PC gaming. If it was still pay to play this game would have been dead long ago.

Did it remove free to play? No? Still no desire to return.

You can get all items through drops, crafting and trading. What’s wrong with it being F2P?

I like how you assume that his objection to F2P centres around items…

I stopped playing long ago and uninstalled at the start of the year. Any time I went to play, the only server that actually had a game running was 2-fort 24/7 and that gets old, fast.

Heaps of other players were online.. all idling for items.

Seriously bad stuff when people only start the game to idle for items that they don’t use because they don’t actually play.

Murray Hibble,

2-fort 24/7 is cancer.

Found it similar to DarkMellie, only people actually playing are on 2fort. The rest are attempting to make cash by idling.

Removing the sniper set bonus pisses me off. I paid actual money for it (which I had at the time :P) and now they’ve removed it. Shit like that annoys me.

I think I’ll fire TF2 up again to see what it’s like now, I’ve always loved TF2.

Plenty of people still playing TF2 across plenty of servers with maps other than 2Fort. People above claiming otherwise have no clue what they’re talking about.

“Rage is now generated only from damage dealt to game community”
Seriously though I’m actually rather miffed about this update; I didn’t see any issues with it before (ok, few over used weapons but still) and a massive patch like this rather than rolling it out progressively really doesn’t test any of the changes, especially to a game with a huge economy like TF2. Removal of set bonuses is a joke, and a horrible change; Not being able to get killed by headshots was the only thing that made sniper an accessible class for me, now it looks like I’ll be spending more time hiding behind walls….

Whats wrong with 2fort 24/7? I love some of that CTF action, pretty much the only reason I play TF2 is for CTF (don’t kill me)

Completely with you. Didn’t pay for it but spent many an hour trading, and just to remove all the sets bonuses with “calling cards” is a disappointment.

I just think that 2fort is an incredibly overrated map, it doesn’t transfer well to TF2′s new classes and its design heavily encourages stalemates. I like CTF just fine in TF2, unfortunately a lot of the community seems to have gravitated to the much easier payload mode.

I’ve also just come to loathe 24/7 one map servers in general, as other commenters have noted they tend to poison the well and attract a certain kind of player.

Plenty of people still playing TF2 across plenty of servers with maps other than 2Fort. People above claiming otherwise have no clue what they’re talking about.

OK, maybe they are playing something different now. When I was on a few times it was either 2fort or idle_whatever.

Plenty of people still playing TF2 across plenty of servers with maps other than 2Fort. People above claiming otherwise have no clue what they’re talking about.

So when I started up numerous times across a few months and the only populated playing server was a single 2-fort one… I was mistaken?

Murray Hibble: Lolwat

So when I started up numerous times across a few months and the only populated playing server was a single 2-fort one… I was mistaken?

At what time of the day did you look?

While sure there are the 2fort servers ( yuck I hate them too) there are still plenty of different types of servers available at normal playing hours. It is usually only the 2fort servers at very late times.

Now for this new patch, while I will be adding in the new maps to the full rotation servers and to the CP only servers, I have added a New Maps server at : #13 [QLD] New Maps (July 2013)

should you want to try out the new maps on their own.

As for the removal of the bonuses from the sets, that is a bit annoying as I know plenty of people have either purchased them or went out of their way to trade/craft to get the sets for those bonuses.

Still, changes need to be made all round. I know I like some of the other changes that have been made :)

There’s (literally) a whole world outside of the GON servers. If you couldn’t find a populated Australian server other than 2Fort or Trade/Idle then you are doing something wrong.

jambo: …wut?

You can get all items through drops, crafting and trading. What’s wrong with it being F2P?

There are people upset that the game community got “diluted” by the influx of n00bs because it now didn’t cost money to play the game.

Elitests being unhelpful that is all :)

BTW there is a server browser for finding servers that are not 2fort/idle servers.
I have always been able to find a good server even at weird hours, dunno what your problem is.

There is already some teary eyed spies out there :D

+ some engies crying about mini-sentries.
