Maxis testing waters to see if players want bigger SimCity regions

SimCity

A survey sent to SimCity players about what changes they’d like to see to the game includes a mention of a feature that nearly every SimCity player I know would kill to have: bigger regions.

“Imagine city spaces that are 2x the current city size, to build larger cities,” reads the question. Other questions asked on the survey include whether or not players would like to see the return of subways, rebuilding tools, guilds, and the ability to raise and lower roads.

Perhaps the most tantalising potential feature of all is the ability to actually terraform the land and alter the terrain in what the question describes as “true god mode”.

You can check out some screenshots of the survey at this imgur album.

Something tells me in their hardware survey they realised that people aren’t playing the game on 8 year old computers like the minimum specs are.

Really? Are you serious Maxis? You really need a survey to work out if people want bigger cities? Exactly how high is your ivory tower?

only 2 times larger?

If you’re implementing larger lots, do it right!

HAH gold :D Yes you buggers, give us bigger lots, terraforming and the ability to make subways again!!!! Done any one of those three things (mostly the size) and I’ll be playing again. Otherwise I haven’t touched the game since release :/

All of those things should of been in the first version of the game, along with no always online bullshit, and I might of actually played it longer than a day.

4 Hours to login, 1 hour gameplay, your face when the game deletes your safe file cos it was “corrupt”? Priceless.

Maxis are finally learning that finding out what the player base actually wants, before making a game might be the (W)right solution ;)

Seriously, worst move ever letting that stupid bimbo oust Will Wright…

I swear the other sim city games had all these things….

Ever since i first turned on the game and finally got a to a point in my city where it was close to being perfect i’d run outta room, 50x bigger regions plz!!!!

1. Release game

2. Conduct basic market research (and/or apply basic logical thinking) which should have been done 4 years before you released game

3. ???

4. Profit!

sounds like DLC to me… Offline play, an unbroken game, just for another $39.99.

Name how many games run on middle of the range 2005 hardware that have been released since 2010.

I certainly don’t have any games post-2010 that can, but I’d be curious to what games you have.

Your pathetic love for this trainwreck of a game is touching.

I think it’s a fallacy to believe that the major target market of Sim City is people who have hardware that is 8 years out of date. Glassbox is scaleable but does not run well on 2005 grade hardware. Hell I’ll get my Barton out and confirm it if you like. That’s 2003 grade hardware. It may run it but playable is another matter.

The fact is they mistargeted their audience and ended up with the current waste of space that is Sim City. Not to mention there are still numerous reports of poor optimisation on the EA/Maxis forums with PC’s that are so overspecced for the game it’s not funny.

It is good to see they are looking into the things we all loved from the older games it is just a shame they were not in there from the start and that at least some will cost extra money to get.

Of the list ideas here are a few that I would like to see.
Terraform (this has been in all other version and is very much needed to be able to reclaim land or create or flatten the terrain)
Different sized areas in a zone (similar to how sc4 has but possibly with the spaces we have now so you can make a true city some satellite ones and some just towns)
Farms (this would go hand in had with that above to have food producing and processing towns surrounding major cities)
I would like to see even higher density options too like you could with archeology cities (until the blasted off into space)

I would still also like to see my utilities generate revenue and not just be money pits. I am fine with them maybe not always making profits just would like to have them showing stuff is not free to my sims.

Ooh, can I include Indie titles in that list? I reckon there’d be a whole swag of those.

Nasty Wet Smear

Have they done any testing to see how many players want to be hooked up to needless servers at their end yet?

Darth Teddy Bear

I do wish people would stop calling it SimCity, lets be honest it is more like SimSmallCountryTown.

Of course the ability to play something that would represent a large country town will be a paid add-on that will cost as much as the original game if past trends are anything to go by.

There is list longer than my arm, SPAZ, gnomoria lots of indy games, this was not an indy game and there was no reason to think that the player base had computers that old.

Its not that it runs on 2005 hardware but why it was limited that way when it didn’t have to be that irritates people.
