The War Z changes its name to “Infestation: Survivor Stories”

Troubled zombie MMO The War Z has apparently figured that a good way to leave all those controversies behind and to stop people confusing them with DayZ or perhaps World War Z is to change their name to Infestation: Survivor Stories.

As explained on the official forums, “Effective today, The War Z has changed its name to Infestation: Survivor Stories. This change has come about primarily as a result of some confusion and trademark issues with a similarly titled property.”

“While we were reluctant to rename the game so long after launch, especially with nearly 1 million registered players, it was ultimately decided to be in the best interest of our existing community as well as future players in order to eliminate confusion. Please rest assured that this will in NO WAY affect you as players. The only difference you will see is the change in logo and website. There will be no interruption of service or change in content.”

I wonder if this lets them escape the horrid 20/100 Metacritic score sitting on their store page too?

I bought this for $4 the other day, played it once, died, and haven’t played it since – I don’t think a name change will help.

I almost got this for $4 but then visited a couple of forums before my final decision. Apparently it wasn’t worth the $4…
Sounds like it needs a major overhaul of gameplay mechanics and also dedicated PvE zones.

This game is like eating a bowl of ice cream.
But the ice cream is dog poo, and the sprinkles are broken glass.

What a sham.

Anyone played DEADZ?

The most shocking thing about the statement is the mention of 1 Million users, Can’t believe that many people bought into this despite all the negative press it garnered since day 1. I shook my head when it was near the top of Steam’s best seller’s the other day at it’s $3.75 price or whatever.

Ofcourse that aswell may be yet another one of the lies from this studio. Who knows.

Shows you how very little people care what others think.

Most are people who had no idea about the history of the game. They bought and learned. Thing is of the 1mil registered users, I wonder how many are actually active beyond the hackers…

Not to mention that the game shares a similar name with the movie World War Z, which undoubtedly has enough legal power to scare Hammerpoint Interactive back into their hole. They clearly wouldn’t want their movie to be associated with any possible confusion that this train wreck of a game is about the movie or connected to it, in any way.

Nasty Wet Smear

I recall there was a thread on the Day Z forums about their name being challenged by World War Z, with links showing the legal request for them to change their name.

As the games owner had done with EVERYTHING that happened in this game, he shouted people down, told them they were idiots, lying, didn’t know the law and that the name would stand and would never change.

I don’t know what Games.On.Net’s policy is on linking other webpages, so I’ll just include the quote manually:

“guys,

this is getting to be ridiculous.

1) go to uspto.gov
2) Go to TESS – trademark search
3) search for War Z
4) Enjoy LIVE trademark !

Why spread lies ?
even more -I was sent this link like three already – and looks like people are not even reading this document.”

changing it’s name wont help ,you can polish a turd but its still a turd!

they only changed the name to avoid legal action from world war z.

lordporksword: it needs a major overhaul of gameplay mechanics and also dedicated PvE zones.

it does yes, you can “rent” a server but the cost is ridiculous.
The actual game-play isn’t too horrible tho, I had alot of fun with it in it’s early stages while everyone was screaming about how bad it was.

“Anyone played DEADZ?”

What on earth is this it looks like some kind of war z private server?

Hang on a second. Everyone bitches them out for having a name similar to that other shitty game and the second they FINALLY change it, everyone bitches them out again.

Jesus. They’re damned if they do and damned if they don’t.

Yes, they’re damned and they deserve just that.

eeekdaz23,

Why would you want to? A fifteen square kilometre map? That is 3.8 kilometres squared! Day Z on Chernarus is 225 kilometres squared!

Talk about tiny…
