The Division is Ubisoft’s surprise E3 hit – watch 7 minutes of open-world gameplay footage here

The Division

Ubisoft revealed last night that at their conference that the secret project they’ve been working on with Massive Entertainment is a (appropriately) massive, persistent, open-world third-person action MMO by the name of The Division.

It’s a Tom Clancy title, although quite how that fits in (or is relevant) is not clear, but what is clear is that the game looks, generally, pretty hot. The trailer you’re about to see below shows some very impressive graphics, which just twists the knife in further when you discover that this game is currently slated for Xbox One and PS4 only.

Now there’s almost no doubt that Ubisoft will bring it to PC eventually — I’d expect an announcement closer to the launch — but for the moment we’ll just have to throw it in the box alongside Grand Theft Auto labelled “Wistful Sighs”.

Check out the trailer below, or if you’d like to download it in 1080p HD instead, find that here.

The video player is not available in the viewing method you are currently using. Please visit the article on games.on.net to watch.

My excited nerd group and I have decided to purchase this and other suitable Ubisoft games on PS4 for the first year or so. The graphics discrepancy won’t be large, we won’t have to fear AWFUL ports as is usually the case with ubi games, but more importantly, we DON’T HAVE TO USE THE UPLAY CLIENT. Sold. :D

I’m skeptical.. but that video was “pretty hot” if not amaze-balls.

Be careful. That gameplay was fully scripted, same as the BF4 video. It’s cool, but you can tell that real players will never be co-ordinated like this. Even co-op with friends won’t turn out this well.

That’s not scripted gameplay, it’s staged. Which is also what the BF4 multiplayer trailer was. And so are all trailers like this at E3.

Also pretty sure in this video the players being on mics was added post production.

However still, this looks fucking awesome.

You underestimate the power of nerds, I have had day z groups way more organised than this.

Game looks sick can’t wait to try it out… probably on pc

Holy CRAP, that looks AMAZING.

Favourite few bits were;

When he’s hugging the cop car and moves past the door, the way the character reaches out and pushes car door looks SO natural.

That ball grenade thing that went out and nailed the guy behind the car, give me some of that.

The idea that someone can send a bot in to help you on this random mission and then just hop out, well, just wow.

I’m extra excited because it’s Ubisoft Massive… the team that made World in Conflict, Far Cry 3 and Assassin’s Creed 3… they’re an extraordinarily talented team.

Really hope this gets green on the PC. Loving the idea’s behind it.

Definite highlight of E3 for me so far. Looking forward to the PC announcement…

It’s pretty much Defiance but in a city and with better graphics thrown at it.

Well that and the fact that this will probably lag unless they’ve gone for a more client-side focused netcode that games like Halo: Reach opted for (that played really smoothly online).

That it is, but it’s not painful software that we have to launch and play our games through that runs like a bitch and isn’t worth the trouble. It’s a reward system.

I mean, I know which incarnation I’d prefer to be forced to use.

Uplay has gotten alot better over the years when I was playing far cry 3 it was pretty good so far as DRM goes

Well having played my fair share of Defiance, the game mechanics didn’t look that similar. The gun mechanics look well thought out instead of rushed, though if it’s US based the lag will be a killer no matter what, as setting things up client side just invites hackers, especially on PC.

Personally I hate Defiance. It was rushed and poorly thought out with little to no progression and just a bunch of boring samey weapons.

Credits must be given for the truly stunning glass physics. By far the best engine I have seen to process the destruction of glass based on the projectile motion, and placement of bullets – amazing! Little things like this just make a game, everything looks soo well polished, creating an immersive experience. Sure hope it is on PC, im sure someone here will be able to answer that, however nevertheless look forward to getting the game on whatever console it comes out on!

I’ve emailed them and they said that they haven’t ruled out anything, I suggest anyone else that wants it on PC should email and ask so that they realise that lots of people want it on PC.
