We have launched our first ArmA 3 servers! Please come and play on them

ArmA III Alpha

As you know here at games.on.net we run a buttload of servers for many and varied games, and now we’re proud to announce that we’ve just deployed our first lot of ArmA 3 servers.

These are still development servers as the game is only in alpha, so please be aware it might not be fully stable or properly featured yet.

So! Help us test them by connecting and playing on them today — you should see them in your server browser. You’ll need to make sure you’re running the DEV build of the ArmA 3 alpha — details on how to do that can be found here.

Any questions or comments, post them in this thread!

please just run vanilla game modes,
it seems every online server i try to join has wasteland, or some other form of mod on it

 

1. Run vanilla missions, no-one will probably play on them.
2. Run Wasteland or whatever is the flavour of the month, have lots of people on the server and setting up GON as their long-term ARMA3 home.

The only reason I’m not playing Arma 3 Alpha is because there are no populated or official (over 20 players) vanilla missions.

And because it’s alpha and some mods (wasteland) cause frame rate issues.

Awesome news
If possible please make them 8-16 player coop plain non mod servers .
Please dont use wasteland or other mods.

Maybe do a vote on some plain coop maps

 

Why would you run it in Dev mode considering how inherently unstable it’s been so far? Queer move IMHO.
Run Standard build; everyone can connect.
Run Dev build… new build gets released, awww no one can connect because something is broken. Wait for updated build.

Isn’t running the dev builds the whole point of having an alpha? The more servers running the dev build the better in my opinion. More people testing, therefore (hopefully) less bugs upon full release.

 

The most recent dev build helps address the ‘hacking’ issues plaguing multiplayer at the moment due to vulnerabilities in their scripting commands.

Also, Wasteland = terribad.

 

I now now ‘Buttload’ = approximately 250 of something :D

Not when it requires a lot more effort to keep running.
For a small team server maybe, but I wouldn’t have thought on a platform like GoN that you’d want to be administering servers 24/7 just to make sure that people can connect to them when there’s a new dev build out.

Plus there’s always the division that when they change something in the engine, all of a sudden missions won’t work anymore until they’re edited to suit the new changes…

Such is the way of Arma. I have gotten used to it for the most part but the fact Steam autoupdates even with that disabled could be troublesome when using multiple mods.
