Save yourself 3GB of quota and download the Neverwinter client from us

Neverwinter

By on May 2, 2013 at 2:18 pm

Our good friend and file library overlord Cas Bitton has uploaded the current beta files for Neverwinter to the games.on.net file library! You can download them here.

Please note that our file library is of course only quota-free for customers of the iiNet group — everyone else only gets to enjoy the fast speeds instead.

Neverwinter just went into open beta yesterday and is free-to-play, so jump in if you’re keen. Sign-up here.

Is there any way you can get Planetside 2 and Battlefield 3 clients on the server? I can’t justify the excessive quota it’d take to download them .T_T

games.on.net did originally host the PS2 client but it was removed and I never saw a decent reply why.

My suggestion is to get a person that already has it downloaded, back it up and either post it/courier it or grab it at a lan party.

Origin does not support AU content server so its 30 gig download but can be backed up and restored .

I wont be playing any MMO that doesnt support AU/NZ/asia based server. By the looks of the news about NWO they cant keep up with the server traffic of the existing servers and load of the patch server

exe: Are you in Brisbane ? If so I suggest attending the next GGF LAN you should be able to grab a copy of lots of origin and steam backups to restore via hard drive to save quota

How do you backup Origin games? My brother has it fully installed but I know you can’t copy/paste the directory otherwise I would have done that already. I don’t know anyone who plays Planetside 2 and the install killed itself when I tried to back it up via Steam for the reformat i’ve just completed. :(

Hmm when I clicked the link in the article to download Neverwinter and followed the buttons it ended up with a 404 error. However it worked when I searched for it manually.

Just posted in case anyone else had the same trouble as me.

Also who else is playing Neverwinter and what server (if there are servers) would be nice to find some friends to play an MMO with off the bat.

When I format a computer hard drive I ALWAYS since Windows 95a have

Partition 1 – OS
Partition 2 – Programs / Documents
Partition 3 – Games and Downloads

With Steam you can COPY steamapps folder OR the whole thing , reinstall Windows and lanch Steam and it normally picks up everything fine. As does origin copy and paste

exe3,

PlanetSide 2 is on Steam, so you could always download it from there.
As long as you use Steam-Limiter it should not use your quota.

Similar to copying over a Steam game folder. Copy/paste the game folder into Origin Games and tell Origin to download the game, it will see the game is there and do a file check.

ringostingo,

That only downloads the initial release. You have to download the many gigs of updates via their patcher. It’s frankly moronic it works that way tbh, if your game is on steam then it should be patching via steam. :/

shuth,

Unless something has changed recently it doesn’t work that way, I remember trying that yet despite the files being there it was still downloading the game. I got it to work but it involved giving every single BF3 file a silly temp extension for origin to recognise it then convert back to the original files. There’s also a lot of steam games as i’ve found that don’t actually like being copy/pasted for some reason. :S

exe3,

Not sure then. When I reinstalled to a new drive in Jan I installed Origin, copied over BF3 and ME3, then opened Origin and told them to Install. It read through all the files and was ready to play after a few minutes.

Might work differently for older games if it installs outside of Origin Games?

Got to level 7 earlier today, good bit of fun and seems to have a decent amount of polish for a F2P….

….. Got nothing on Neverwinter Nights though ;)

exe3:

origin backup stuff

Sometimes you may have to start the download, let it do 1-2%, so it creates all the files etc, then copy the complete version in over those files.

You might want to upload the fully patched client for people on slower connections if possible, click the “disable on demand patching” in the launcher settings and it will get the whole client instead of the base areas.

Doing that greatly improved my gameplay experience and load times.

exe3,

shuth,

Copy/paste does not seem to work 100% with BF3 and Origin. We tried a few different ways and it always wants to update BF3 and its expansions (34GB)

Tried repairing the BF3 game and when it hits 100%, it keeps going and at 107% wants to download at least another 5GB of missing files. We ended up repairing individual expansions that needed it and then when playing the game, if it asks to update for a particular expansion, cancel the update and it plays the expansion fine, as all the files are there.

If there is a better way, I would love to know :)

I migrated all of my EA games from Steam over to Origin and it would only have to download maybe 100-200mb for each game. Just got to rename the folders to what Origin wants rather than what Steam wants. So unless there is an anomaly with BF then it should work ok.

Also OT thanks for the host.

Download link broken? I get a 404.

wouldnt bother launcher is broken/crashes cant connect, forums dont load ,big waste of time really.

shavedwookie,

This would be because of the server problems they just had this morning.

I actually found out how to get around this. When the PS2 launcher tries to start patching, exit it. Go to PS2 in your Steam library and verify the game cache. It will check your files and realise that it’s missing a whole heap (assuming you haven’t patched) and then download it through Steam. Neat little trick!
