Trent Oster, the man behind Beamdog and the recent Enhanced Edition of the iconic RPG Baldur’s Gate has given a short status update on the progress of the Enhanced Edition of the sequel.

“We’re hard at work on BG2:EE and it is going well,” Oster claimed to ShackNews. “Phil (our design lead) mentioned to me there is over 350,000 words of new content.”

Oster explained that this number related to both Shadows of Amn and the Throne of Bhaal expansion. Beamdog’s plan was for the remake of Baldur’s Gate 2 to take precedence over any DLC plans for the first game, and Oster confirmed that this was still the case.

No release date for the Enhanced Edition of Baldur’s Gate 2 has yet been given.

What was so “Enhanced” about the first one? That horrible flash opening cinematic was enough to put me off playing it.
I heard that the new content wasn’t really worth anyone’s time and that you get a better experience just by using the BGTutu and widescreen mods on the original game.

I would have been happy for them to not add anything to the first enhanced edition and just clean up the graphics and make them more modern computer friendly. I always had issues getting the widescreen mods and expansion content etc working in harmony so I was glad that they did this.
Didn’t really like the new opening though.

We bought the first one, realised they somehow made the GUI worse, made the multiplayer really unstable, didn’t play it. It was really disappointing after all the hype.

They should have updated the character models (the 3d stuff looks really dated but the background art still looks amazing) and made multiplayer work and I would have been happy. Instead we got an IOS port of a game that was previously functional. It was embarrassing how little of the monitor the GUI made use of – take a look at some screenshots and you can see how much of it is blank space because of a poorly organised interface.
