Appearance of SEGA Spectrum logo ignites speculation about E3 announcement

SEGA Spectrum

By on May 30, 2013 at 10:04 am

A photo showing something called the “SEGA Spectrum” has appeared online, snapped by a NeoGAF user named shaowebb.

The text below the logo translates as “A new world of entertainment”, and a date of June 12, suggesting some kind of upcoming reveal at E3.

Speculation is currently that it’s some sort of SEGA digital distribution platform or perhaps new publishing label — while it’d be nice to see SEGA jump back into the console race, it seems pretty unlikely at this point.

Please feel free to continue your own speculation in the comments below!

Would this be for PC? If so, I would not approve. I’m not a fan of monopolies but I would only prefer steam. its simply too inconvenient to have so much digital distribution software and accounts on my PC.

NEW SEGA CONSOLE SEGA ZX SPECTRUM

I don’t know whats so hard about having multiple distribution systems. I use many and always go where the price is cheapest. Usually thats not steam.

I WISH: a mega powerful console with duel CPUs and tri GPUs that will blow the other consoles out of the water with amazing graphics and a market place similar to steam.

I EXPECT: something similar to ubisofts Uplay.

Wet Dreamcast! If only.

More marketplaces mean price competition – they also force publishers to work on creating more effective delivery platforms if they want to compete with Steam.

Steam takes a pretty big cut from memory so a lot of the larger publishers would find it cheaper to develop their own.

James Pinnell,

That’s the theory but if you buy from Steam and are still forced to install and use Uplay, Origin etc then I think the argument falls apart somewhat.

Artful-dodgeR

My hopes and dreams are a new console. I grew up on an SMSII.

Realistically, it’ll be another Uplay/Origin.

MuscularTeeth

MY GUESS:
It will be a Hindenberg type zeppelin with a panel on the back that shoots out flying sharks with hands instead of fins.
It will have extra long tentacles on one side, and feathers on the other side. All wrapped in celophane and dashed with a sprinkling of powdered sugar. Played to a deep C note wafting on a perfume of lavender.

I want to see that.

muscularteeth,

Don’t be stupid man, everyone knows Zeppelin went out of business 60 years ago

Goodyear blimps firing sharks with hands is much more believable >_>

James Pinnell,

What exe3 said. I currently refuse to download any more of these clients, the only reason I recently ended up with uPlay is because I bought Far Cry 3 on Steam and was silly enough not to read the fine print.

it’s got the cmyk colours there.. it could be a new printer?

I heard a radio program a few days back – i think it was INDESIGN taling to an american who is planning on bringing them back! technology has changed since the hindenberg, and they would make ideal mass cargo transport where speed isnt needed…

kinkykel,

Me too

+1 :(

jellygoose,

So you want a $1700+ PC that you can’t upgrade?

I think you’re kinda missing the point of consoles. Also there’s very little reason to ever use dual CPUs outside of servers.

hobomaster,

He said duel cpus. Apparently he doesn’t want the two cpus to work together, he wants a pitfighter-style cpu fight to the death. Two cpus go in, one comes out! I know I’d pay money to watch that. :P
