Torchlight 2 gets game editor, Steam Workshop support in new patch

In our Torchlight II review we praised it for allowing mod support, and remarked that “mod support is literally the most important thing a PC game can ever include”.

Now that mod support is set to become expanded, as Runic Games have officially released GUTS, the game editor for Torchlight II. Using GUTS (which doesn’t stand for anything, by the way) you can modify “almost everything about Torchlight II, from item and skill balance, to level layouts, animations, quests, and much more.”

“GUTS mods can be shared with your friends, and multiplayer games using mods can be found in the modded games lobby. In addition, A new launcher lets you customize which mods are currently active.”

Steam Workshop support is also included, with the one-click subscription to hosted Workshop mods part and parcel of the new package. There’s heaps of new content on the way as well, so hit up the official announcement for all the details.

Torchlight II is only $9.99 on Steam until April 9, so you’re basically a madman (or woman) if you don’t already own it at this point.

Dammit I literally spent seconds, SECONDS I SAY! trying to figure out what GUTS could stand for before your ruined it! I’ll never get those seconds back either! *weeps*

Otherwise, interesting to see what mod authors do. (Graphical User Tool Set?)

Noticed it was 50% off, been wanting it for ages as I LOVED Torchlight 1 and I can’t say no to some more dungeon crawling action so I snagged it up (sure it means I have to eat noodles a bit more instead of real food but it’s worth it :P ) Have only spent 30 mins playing but I’m loving it. Makes me hope Blizzard will turn to Runic for lessons on how to make Diablo 4 (if there is one).

However, being me, there has to be a downside. The second I started the game, I went straight for the GUTS tutorials because that HUD is horribly dull and ugly. No idea who approved it but they should be fired as should the designer. So once I get my head around GUTS I’ll be making it look like the T1 HUD or similar.

I’m still only level 10 or something. After playing Diablo 3 and Borderlands 2 I’m still completely loot-whored out. One day I’ll get back to it, hopefully with some amusing mod that turns up the physics on explosions.
