The Binding of Isaac sold over 2 million copies, remake with co-op on the way

Indie developer Edmund McMillen has revealed in an interview that The Binding of Isaac, his randomly-generated weird roguelike action-shooter-thing, has sold over two million copies. That’s a number any developer would be happy to achieve, let alone an indie one.

McMillen stated that the success of the original had justified work on the expanded remake, which would no longer run in Flash but rather on its own custom game engine. Two-player co-op will also be included in the remake, which is to be titled The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth.

The sequel will be hitting PC, Vita and PS3, although probably not Nintendo as the original was rejected for the Nintendo DS due to “questionable religious content”.

Hahaha… Murrican freedom right?

I hope this remake includes native joypad support on PC rather than just “go install joy2key”

Real men use keyboards mensly.

And can’t wait for this, the wife and I play this shit out of this and this will be fun.

The “install joy2key” thing was funny and way too many people got pissy about it. The game only supported shooting in 4 directions, anyway.

Keen for this. hopefully the lag is bearable to play to Europe, because that’s where all of my friends who played BoI live. Either way, there’s no doubt I’ll be buying this after the original was so amazing.

Awww yisss! I’ll take 4 thanks.

From what I’ve read co-op is going to be local only, because making it over the internet co-op would push the release date way back.

I’m super fond of the graphic styling of the original but I’m sure I’ll get used to this one. The most exciting part about this will be proper resolution support and in game control pad support. And having to refind every item again of course.

How about developing this one and have it playable in mobile like Android, are they also on the plan? This games is more than a demolition games and a zombie games, reasons why I I like it.
