SimCity’s first major update arrives on Tuesday

EA Maxis is still tinkering furiously with poor old arguably utterly broken SimCity. This week, the developer will release what it describes as its first “major” update, fixing a number of bugs, correcting some balancing, and ensuring your mayor drives the appropriate vehicle to work.

Some of the more interesting updates include a fail state for residential-only cities. A number of tweaks such as increased unhappiness from unemployment and decreased happiness boosts from tax cuts mean filling a whole plot with just houses will no longer cut it.

On the other hand, casinos have been buffed a bit so that they’re much more worth your time and resources, there’s a cooldown on random disasters, and some of the frustrating transit issues have been fixed.

The update will begin rolling out to servers at 1:00PM PST on April 22, which is 6:00AM Tuesday, Sydney time. Servers are expected to be unavailable for a couple of hours as a result.

Full patch notes are available on the EA Forums.

I’m looking forward to this patch, it fixes most of my remaining gripes I have with the game. It will get me playing the game again, just in time for Dead Island Riptide to undoubtedly disappoint me :P

• Disasters: Cooldown for random disasters: Some players were getting hit too frequently with random disasters, this introduces a cooldown where no random disasters will occur.

This was starting to annoy me. I would constantly be getting hit by disaster after disaster. Easy enough to recover from most but just bloody annoying, especially getting hit by radioactive meteors that leave radioactive pockets around your city.

• Trade: Fix for trade ports that suddenly stop shipping.

I hope this fixes that stupid industrial building siting next to your trade depot whining that their is no where to trade their wares only because they are too stupid to look left or right…

;)

i saw the film BROKEN CITY with wahlberg and crowe, good movie
