SimCity coming to Mac in June, PC owners to get Mac version for free

SimCity

EA have announced that SimCity will be coming to the Mac as promised — and the date to circle on your iCalendar is June 12.

PC owners who have already purchased the game will receive a free Mac version as well through Origin, and EA have also confirmed that there will indeed be cross-platform play between the two.

Maxis claim that the Mac version is entirely native and optimised specifically for Mac hardware and OSX. There’s no word on a price, so expect it to be exactly the same as the PC edition.

Oh boy!

When you say “Mac version” are you referring to a later version with extended content appended to the PC version? Or a Mac version patched to run on PCs necessitated by multiplayer incompatibility between the two native versions?

Free, awesome, I cant believe they gave me a free game, now all I have to do is buy a MAC, lol.

jme,

Call me crazy, but I’d assume they mean if you already own the PC version of SimCity, you can grab a Mac version of the game to play on your Mac, for free! (provided you actually own a Mac that is)

Not like the title of the article might imply. (if you own a PC, you get the Mac version of the game for free) I actually had to chuckle at that, I kind of guessed what it meant but it was like “woohoo! I own a PC! Where’s my free Mac version of SimCity?”

“SimCity coming to Mac in June, Simcity players gets Mac version for free” is a better title, since SimCity should refer to SimCity (2013). Players, because they must own the copy of SimCity (2013) and the only version available is the PC version.

My only question is does the Mac version have an offline version?

Nice job on not reading the article.

Doubt it. If us PC owners aren’t getting one because it’s an “MMO” then I don’t see why Mac owners would get it.

vcatkiller,

Ah that simpler explanation makes sense.

And I thought the same as you. You can imagine my disappointment upon reading the article.

Yeah but what happens when I need to right click?

/oldschool Apple bashing :P
