Polygon has dug up court documents pertaining to the final auction of properties beloning to shuttered publisher THQ.

Final bids were due on April 15, and the offers will be presented in court and potentially finalised sometime in May. Although the documents don’t reveal who bid on what, and for how much, they did note that “certain of the IP” attracted 17 bids, and the sales could bring in up to $7 million if approved.

Bids have been accepted since February. The six lots on offer were the Darksiders series; the Red Faction series; the Homeworld series; the MX series; Other Owned Software, including Destroy All Humans!, Summoner, and more; and Other Licensed Software, including Marvel Super Hero, Supreme Commander, Worms, and more.

We know for sure where one of these lots did not end up; teamPixel was unable to remain competitive in its attempts to save Homeworld.

Fingers crossed someone decent got the Homeworld IP…and that they do something with it!

lordporksword,

Hopefully EA bought it and they pass it along to Bioware to make the series, you know, actually good.

Then origin… Even if Bioware got it, they most likely still wouldn’t make a good game out of it. They’ve also never made an RTS…

A better fit would be if Sega bought it for Relic to work on it. :)

Hopefully EA didn’t buy it so they can’t screw the franchise over with poor business decisions.

Sega getting Relic to work on it would be good, but then Relic would have to get out of their Company of Heroes trench long enough to make a game without stupid UI Micromanagement…

I’m sure if relic were interested in the franchise they would’ve made Homeworld 3 by now.

Theres a rumour going around that SEGA secretly bought Homeworld franchise and will make an announcement soon.

deathmist,

Well they’d never made an MMO before SWTOR and… oh my god what have I done!?

FYI I’m still laughing about how everyone tore me down for not getting sucked in to the hype of that game and then all the people who were raving about it never mentioned it ever again after launch.

Then most of them did the same with Guild Wars 2.

Yeah, that’s works for basically every MMO. Just wait for the TES MMO crowd.

nekosan,

It was always going to happen. I’ve never been overly impressed with any of Bioware’s work and have never understood their popularity despite enjoying the genre of games they tend to make. Guild Wars 2 has had its own success and is quite a decent game in its own right. The crown will always be held by WoW though. No MMO has or ever will top its success, perhaps until Blizzard release another MMO. TES will be more of the same with a couple of gimmicks (maybe) like all the other games that tried to beat WoW (Aion, RIFT, LOTRO, GW2, SWTOR etc).

Hopefully whoever gets hold of these IP will do something good with them. Homeworld for sure but the Summoner series always did have some good potential.

a new summoner would be awesome – I attack the darkness!

I think EA is just about the LAST company I want buying the Homeworld IP.

Fingers crossed for SEGA.

Well, Gearbox got Homeworld. Just pray they don’t outsource it to Timegate LOL.
