Batman: Arkham Origins announced, Warner Bros. to take over from Rocksteady

Batman: Arkham Origins

Warner Bros. have today revealed Batman: Arkham Origins, a prequel to Arkham Asylum and Arkham City. The game will be developed by Warner Bros. Montreal, who are taking over from the original creators at Rocksteady, but will be using the same modified Unreal Engine that the first two games have run on.

Arkham Origins will take place years before the events of Asylum, when a “young, unrefined Batman encounters many supervillains for the first time”. The lead designer of Prototype and The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction is heading up the project, and Deathstroke can be seen on the wraparound GameInformer cover for the title.

Batman: Arkham Origins will launch on October 25.

great… i give this a 90% chance of being shit now that Rocksteady are out…

I’m holding a little hope for it. If the new devs understand what made Asylum and City good they may put out a good game.

Given the quality effort of Tomb Raider showing how well a origin story can be done, I won’t discount this game yet. But as vcat said, the developers really need to take a good hard look at what made arkham asylum and city so womderful.

Well, I liked prototype, so I’ll be interested to see Batman with a whip fist.
Jokes aside, loved the game franchise, so I’ll watch this one carefully. Who knows how well the elements that made the previous 2 will show in this.

As Ralph said, the recent Tomb Raider origins story was a great success especially given Crystal Dynamic’s earlier efforts were average – a developer can occasionally lift their game.

I haven’t played Prototype or The Incredible Hulk. I just hope they were good practices for the lead designer.

Personally, I don’t particularly think an origins story for Batman is necessary in game format. Batman Begins is still fairly fresh in everyone’s minds. If it’s about the origin of Arkham Asylum as the title suggests, well that would be more interesting but that would be set before Batsy’s time.

hmmm really disappointed rocksteady aren’t doing this…atleast the engine they have been using and all they’ve done to make the gameplay solid can be used.

I just hope the story telling is as good, i loved the arkham asylum and city. Whats the reason rocksteady aren’t doing it?

spkypwnsuall,

The problem with Prototype was it was stock-standard. Not to say the game was not awesomesauce fun with chips, but can you really say it was up with Arkham Asylum?

Plus, really, Incredible Hulk…

PinothyJ,

Prototype was based very heavily on the Hulk game if you listen to the developers talk about it.

Word is Rocksteady are looking to make a Justice League game, which would be just awesome.

This looks good, but we’ll have to wait and see how it goes. A third party developer made the Harley Quinn DLC for AC and it wasn’t that great.
