Planetside 2 now offers VR training

planetside2

Planetside 2 is kind of hard, especially for beginners, but that just makes the learning process all the more worthwhile. To help ease you in, or just to hone your already elite veteran skills, Sony Online Entertainment has introduced a VR training centre in the latest content update to grace the shooter MMO.

The VR training area is accessible through any warp terminal, and allows for safe testing of weapons, vehicles and upgrades, giving you a chance to get familiar with new gear and formulate tactics before you have to use them in actual combat.

Each of three factions has its own training area, supplied with infantry and vehicle target dummies and well as indoor and outdoor shooting ranges and an open space to learn to control the various vehicles.

Full patch notes are available on the Planetside 2 forums; the update also supplied a stealth ATV called the flash and paid some loving attention to rocket launchers.

Because it’s not very clear in the article – all vehicles and weapons as well as all the upgrades for both are unlocked and interchangeable for free in the VR zone.

Pretty much the only things that you can’t do in the VR is check out cosmetics and kill anyone other than yourself.

Thank god they’re all unlocked.

I still don’t think I’ll go back until the hacker problem is fixed, and the cert rate of gain is increased, as 30/hr is just too low as a non-purchaser when it’ll take me 30+ hours just to acquire rockets in 1 aircraft for 1 faction.

Also it’s Double XP weekend!

What indicators of hacking were you observing?

forumrabbit,

The hacker problem is never going to go away. People are willing to pay money for hacks and where there’s money to be made someone’s always going to be trying to earn it.
The whole thing’s exacerbated by the game’s free to play status too, with so little to lose a lot more people are willing to try their hand at hacks and griefing.

That said, last month or so I’ve had very few fights ruined by hackers – maybe one or two battles every couple of nights, it’s a hardly worth mentioning minority of my game time.
SOE is doing an outstanding job keeping their game playable all things considered.

Can’t argue with you about the certs though. But hey, they have to earn their money somehow.

Double XP weekend, with a $5 boost and I easily earned over 1000 certs in two days. Was fairly high population all weekend too. Also gained 8 ranks.

I’m not really finding the trade off of SC vs Certs too bad. Sure its free to play but I never expected to not spend cash.

Great game if you give yourself time to learn the ropes and find a decent outfit to game with…..on that note look up http://www.basterds.net :D

While I would have asked for them to fix optimization as Planetside 2 is the most badly optimized game I have ever seen, this is certainly the second best thing they could have added, perhaps the game will be patched to run properly next time.

dragol,

And now we hear from Dragol!

Dragol, how’s the hyperbole looking today?
