Free copies of ME3, BF3 and more on offer as EA compensates SimCity players

Sim City

EA have made good on their promise to compensate players affected by the messy launch of SimCity, with a post on the EA forums outlining the free games available. The games are on offer to players who have a registered copy of SimCity on their account by the end of March 25, so it’s entirely possible to basically purchase SimCity and get a free game if you do it soon enough.

“The portal will be live worldwide for everyone to select their game by March 22,” says the post. “We don’t want any of you to miss out on your free game, so please note that you must register your copy of SimCity before March 25, 2013 at 11:59 PM PDT and you must claim your free game by March 30, 2013 at 11:59 PM PDT.”

The games available to choose from are:

  • Battlefield 3 (Standard Edition)
  • Bejeweled 3
  • Dead Space 3 (Standard Edition)
  • Mass Effect 3 (Standard Edition)
  • Medal of Honor Warfighter (Standard Edition)
  • Need for Speed Most Wanted (Standard Edition)
  • Plants vs. Zombies
  • SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition

dead space 3 wow; thank you :D EA, didn’t expect it!

Well damn. None of those appear to be double DRMed on Origin.

Wonder if this is related to John Riccitello stepping down.

Anyone after DS3 and who also wouldn’t mind Simcity can now get both for $50-$60. Nice. Tempting for me but I can’t bring myself to install origin…

Not sure what I should get as I don’t have ME 1 or 2… But they’re cheap on steam right?

Is Dead Space 3 worth it? Should I get DS 1&2 to catch up?

Damn these sequel games >_<

I’m kicking myself that I just bought Mass Effect 3 a couple of weeks ago. Dead Space 3 for me I guess.

I find it ironic that they are offering Sim City 4 though.

Hmm, already have Battlefield 3, Mass Effect 3, Medal of Honor Warfighter, Need for Speed Most Wanted and Plants vs. Zombies.
Bejweled or Sim City 4 no ty.

I thoroughly enjoyed Dead Space 1, 2 & 3 on xb360. So that for PC it is.
Dead Space 3 does have a recap/flashback video so you could play it without having done 1 & 2.

I only grabbed SIm City on the weekend and so far have had no issues at all, glad I waited a week. Nice to see some newer titles on the list at least, I was expecting it to be older stuff.

And more sheep run into bright lights bearing down on them…….ffs, they wave a free game in your face & you blindly run off throwing wads of cash at EA??
If your that stupid & easy I have some dried dog turds in the shape of Mass Effect characters….buy 14 & get one FREE!!!!!!!!!!!

Cool, thanks for abusing us all under the assumption the free game is why we bought Simcity.

I actually bought simcity to play simcity. Crazy I know! What’s crazier? I actually enjoy it! Despite all the “game breaking bugs” everyone on this goddamn site seems to enjoy rubbing in my face every 5 goddamn minutes, sometimes even more frequently!

EDIT: Removed blatant abuse.

I would have bought it regardless of the free title, as I said I already own or have played them all anyway. My wife and I wanted to play Simcity together, a free title is just a bonus.
Hating on them when they at least did own the screw up and offer buyers something seems counter productive to me. (sure get at them like most companies for price gouging us Aussies, or DLC pricing, or Origin not being as good as Steam, though steam was pretty bad at release too)
A lot of the big online titles lately are never really prepared for launch server wise and most give you little in way of apology.

Have you played it Otto? Have you actually sat down and given the game a crack?

qldsharkie:

Haters gonna hate…

As someone on one of the other forums put it: “Do you have battered housewife syndrome? This is your bouquet of roses before another beating. Good luck!”

I guess it’s an attempt to make amends to those poor souls who tried it on release date. I’m still glad I didn’t take the plunge. Nonetheless good to see at least some folk have found some enjoyment from the game.

How do you form these correlations?

Your tears make me want to buy a second copy of Simcity.

I wish people showed the same passion towards fast food, soft drink, tobacco and alcohol companies ;)

I don’t think you understand the point of these free games. It’s not a sale buddy.

ooshp: Your tears make me want to buy a second copy of Simcity.

We should both buy extra copies before march 24 then redeem a copy of simcity for each, resulting in a total of 4 copies per person. I am a genius…

EDIT: Not so genius as it turns out. It’s a copy of Simcity 4. Maybe I should get it and gift it to some of the whinging gits on this forum who still want single player Simcity :D

I’m actually happy to have been proven wrong by what game they gave… I chose a little too quickly and chose Mass Effect 3. I now have the complete collection and still haven’t played any of them!!!!

MuscularTeeth

I pre-ordered the game months back. I have had every single Sim city game since it began.
I didnt play the new one for teh first few days (didnt have time).
since then ive been playing and playing and playing and thoroughly enjoying the game.
so what i want to know, is if i get another copy of sim city can i gift it through origin?
i got a mate who’d love it.

At least they did relatively right and offered their expensive catalogue games as repayment for the crap since launch.

Hey Ashigaru, personally I would have gotten Sim City had it not been for the fact you cannot build a city. You can build at most a mini suburb. Though I have noticed the new themed packs they released from the DD version at $10 a pop.

The way it’s being treated I think Maxis/EA are stuck in Sims land with loads of DLC they charge too much for…

I agree they’re quite small, but certainly not mini suburbs. You get enough room that trying to squeeze stuff in is actually a challenge which is both good and bad. I do miss the old Simcity 3000 spaces that were just massive, I just look at this in a different way. It is forcing you to do the region thing, and it’s fun :)

Congrats go to EA for offering some decent games.

A lot of people will see this as a two for one sale and I am sure EA will get their money back in DLC for SimCity. If they ever do a larger city DLC it will be a big seller.

Hope their servers can handle the free game requests ;)

They should still have offered refunds rather than throwing candy out to tempt people to stay with EA and deal with more abusing behaviour. This solution is cheaper for them anyway.

Better than what Steam offers; The War Z was a publicity stunt.

Plants Vs. Zombies? I doub’t anybody would be choosing that unless they already own everything else. It’s only $10 without any special discounts. Wait for a special and you’ll pick it up for like $2.50

Hurray! Picked up ME3, time for some multiplayer! :D
Also Simcity is fun anyway, the freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Five of the worst AAA titles in the last decade? Nice try, EA.

Raven if you don’t like BF3 or ME3 then i would like to know what you think the best AAA games of the last decade would be?

I just picked up NFSMW for free. Thanks for that maxis/EA i appreciate the sentiment, but i already own all the games that interest me in that list so just getting this for a muck around :)

I’ve posted a poll in the SimCity section.

Don’t worry Ashi, I’ll take your second copy off your hands ;)

The thing is I would say most people didn’t want a refund, they just wanted to be able to play the game when they wanted to. There really isn’t that much wrong with the game itself to warrant a refund, just with the ability to play the servers, so these games are to appease people for that loss.

As for staying with EA, you can grab the game, doesn’t mean you have to play it though. Besides, not like they are going to give you a free copy of some other companies game.

Not bad. Saved $20 on Sim City through Amazon, now I get another game for free.

Sim City has it’s issues (all well documented) but otherwise hits the spot. If I get bored with it I can fall back to Sim City 4 and it’s extensive library of mods.

Picked up ME3. Would have grabbed nfsmw of it didn’t own it already! Great games on offer :)
