If you’ve been wanting to try War of the Roses but haven’t got the dough to shell out for it, never fear! Paradox have just announced that their promised free trial is now underway, and can be downloaded here on Steam.

The trial allows users to play with all other users, even paid users, so there’s nothing to stop you from playing it like everybody else — but there are some limitations on classes and weapons. Only the four base classes (Footman, Guardsman, Longbowman, and Footknight) and default weapons and armour are allowed to trial users.

All maps are playable, but only two game modes (Team Deathmatch and Conquest) are open to trial users. You can accrue in-game currency, but you won’t be able to spend it (unless you buy the full version).

I’m yet to buy this because I’ve heard such mixed things, and because I don’t know anyone to play it with. It looks like I’ll finally be able to make up my mind as to if I want it.

Terrible game, stick with warband :) it’s got better combat
