Unless you’re a bit of a classical world geek (and who around here isn’t, amirite? *crickets chirp*) you might not have heard of Total War: Rome II’s newest faction. But once you see a picture of the Iceni, with their gold torcs and blue painted bodies, you’ll realise we’re looking at a Celtic tribe. And everyone knows what that means: total badasses.
The Iceni live on the border of the North Sea, and unlike mainland Celtic tribes, make fearsome use of slings in battle. Infantry is their main bag, and soldiers carry large shields, swords and spears, but they’re also famous for their highly manoeuvrable war-chariots, which carry javelins for ranged attacks.
This warlike tribe has an agricultural but advanced economy and a religious culture, and accumulates funds through ironwork, raiding and looting. Every time the Iceni leaders declare war, the happiness of their people increases. If they can unite Celtic Gaul and Iberia under their banner, they may dominate Iron Age Britain.
