EA/Maxis have confirmed that they will be holding another short, weekend-sized beta test of the upcoming SimCity later in the month. The beta is set to run from 5PM (Sydney time) on February 17 until 5PM on February 18, and will feature what is being called an “enhanced” version of the beta previously shown to us.
If you haven’t signed up for the beta, you can do so at the official site, but hurry as signups end 5PM tomorrow (Sydney time).
Hopefully this time around the beta give us a bit more of an idea why being always-online is necessary — as we discussed, the last beta may have done more harm than good.

Bloody Sunday night through Monday? At least it is only an hour. But damn, crap timing.
I’m putting it down to a 1 day hardware test where they will run tests and adjustments from first beta. My expectation is more disconnects, slow log-in as they run tests and adjustments from the first beta.
So it will be another look at why always online DRM (features) for a single player game is in general a bad idea.
It’s not a single player game anymore. They’re forcing it into a multiplayer game whether you like it or not :/
Which more than likely can be 100% ignorable.
still have doubts about the Always On DRM.
Considering there was no multiplayer in the first beta (Or the Second by the sounds of it.)i will probably wait to see what happens first and then maybe buy it(Last city Builder i got was Cites Xl 2011 they have made a 2012 and than Platinum for that one and it is still buggy.)
ashigaru,
The only multiplayer I experienced during the beta were the support forums when server issues became apparent.
But I agree with exe3, it seems any components in the game that are tied in with multiplayer seem 100% optional, which in turn would make the game singleplayer on a constant connection for features you may use if you want to play with friends. But not DRM, no sir.
