Here at games.on.net we’re partial to a bit of PC gaming, which is why the PS4′s announcement event that happened today has somewhat flown under our radar. We’ll have a wrap-up of the major points shortly, but one of the biggest reveals was this new Watch Dogs footage, embedded below. Slated as a PS4 launch title, the footage shown at the event was actually being run behind the scenes on a high-end PC. Check it out.
Watch Dogs was my number one most anticipated game of 2013 and, based on this footage, it still is.

*facepalm*
Really? I mean I don’t understand why they do this at such an event. I get using the best version of a multiplatform game when advertising just the game but this was the specific announcement of the PS4, it should have been running off of a PS4 to show its power.
This happens at events all the time, especially things like E3 and PAX. They normally have high-end PCs running the games using wireless 360 controllers.
It would be nice to see it running on the PS4, but maybe they still have to tweak it to get it running as well as the PC version, seeing as it’s not coming out for another 9 or so months.
=\
exe3,
It’s probably because the given make of PC is being used as a devkit, the same way early Xbox 360 titles were developed and tested on Power Mac G5′s.
Or it could just be the PC version, who knows?
It’s really just blatant misleading and deceptive conduct. Their intention is to get people to buy PS4s when they come out. They achieve this in part by displaying false information (in the form of faked demos, demos running on other hardware, etc) to the public.
It is illegal and the ACCC and its foreign pals should crack down on it.
Anyway, all the demos they showed were comparable to existing games on PC. People were wetting their pants about the dungeon-y one, but to me it didn’t look any better than Crysis 3 or other recent games.
Watch Dogs looks suuuuuuuuuweeeeeeeeeet.
Wow, that video!
Love the look of the bedraggled hero… Max Payne was a bit too bedraggled, but this guy in the cap and the dirty leather coat looks like the perfect anti-hero.
The parkour looks properly fluid, a little unrealistic maybe, but better than screaming at Altair every time he takes a breather between leaps.
Also love the world-interaction, but most of all the bit where he taps the guys phone as he walks past. Great opportunity here to insert more meaningful story exposition… like how in Bioshock and other games there’ll be recorded messages you can find… but here you can hear that conversation live.
This just jumped right near the top of my must-buy list. IF it’s coming on PC. If not, will have to wait for 3rd Gen PS4.
I agree completely. And we still don’t know anything about the PS4 other than its got a heap of shit of a controller no one can afford that looks painful to use.
God I hate to think what Microsofts got cooked up for their eventual demo.
wasnt there a video like the a few years ago? i can remember something similiar awhile ago if true then not much of a reveal really =/
gaming is an area where the ACCC is non existent
tons of games are misleading, incomplete and unfinished
Meanwhile the ACCC clamps down on the IT Industry right now… we’re still subjected to the same laws as the multimedia industry.. don’t give the games industry a free pass, they pull the exact same shit. Only a matter of time IMO before they do act on it.
It’s similar to how Microsoft got rooted because they used the FF13 footage from the PS3 version to advertise for the 360 version.
It was misleading as the 360 version didn’t look as good.
It is definitely coming to PC :)
And Diablo 3 is coming to both PS3 and PS4… a tad late methinks but it’s nice to see the lord of terror finally make it to the current consoles.
ACCC? Whut?
This game looks awesome! Who cares about the p4sx4 or whatever it’s called. Watch Dogs!
On topic I am actually looking forward to this game, looks like it could be a great new IP starting up.
Similar to Dishonored [even if the dev's say they are done..you know a sequel will be made], good new break out IP and not the same old song and dance from already established franchises.
Isn’t the fact they played it on PC a GOOD thing? It suggests that they are developing Watch Dogs for PC first and then porting to the consoles. I refuse to bitch abotu that fact, if it is the case. ;)
c0mc0,
Taken from the Ubisoft Website for the game here.

Well if these Images are anything to go by I would say that it’s will be on PC as well as consoles.
Interesting to see a Wii U box art on the Per-order site there as well.
Time will tell.
kablekill,
No, no. I didn’t make my point very well. I mean that if the PC version is in the most polished state to show at this early stage, it suggests they are developing with the PC as their primary platform and then porting that to the consoles. Purely from a development perspective. It’s quite possible they’ll all release at the same time.
I say that in contrast to, say Borderlands, that was clearly designed for a console and then ported to PC. The UI, the inability to use the mouse to navigate menus and the “don’t turn your PC off while this logo indicates we’re saving the game” nonsense all made that pretty clear.
exe3,
it wouldn’t have made the game look nearly as impressive, it doesn’t have much power to show off really…
