Kotaku AU is reporting that at least one un-named major retailer has instructed its staff to remove all material relating to God of War: Ascension from its shelves in Queensland, following the news that the game has been rated R18+.
“As Queensland has not passed legislation for the R18 rating for games we must remove all reference to God of War Ascension immediately,” reads the quoted email. “This includes all game slicks, posters, pamphlets, hand written signage, 2-way units and pre order signage.”
Queensland remains the only state in Australia yet to pass the R18+ legislation, which was originally intended to be in place across Australia by January 1. Discussion of the legislation will resume when Parliament reconvenes in the middle of this month.

Sigh, it’s not enough to live in an ass backwards country, but I have the unfortunate luck of living in the most ass backwards state too. I’d like to know why QLD has decided to drag it’s feet.
no daylight savings and now no R18+… discuss.
Uh oh you mentioned the “D” word. Now watch this article implode.
Unfortunately, with the recent floods, I think the R18+ situation is very likely to be far from QLD politicians’ minds.
EDIT: I don’t particularly care one way or the other when it comes to DST. I just want to see Australia adopt a uniform approach to it across the country.
Back on topic, how will this affect EB’s shipping of online orders to other states given the fact that their main warehouse is in QLD?
I hereby, and officially, on the behalf of all South Australians, hand the “Governmental Arsestick Gaming Award” to Queensland.
Thank you. Thank you.
It’s been a long time coming.
Settle down guys. We all know it was pushed to committee as procedure and the report was handed to the government yesterday.
It’s the 3rd bill up for discussion next week and there is bugger all chance it will be voted down since the government were the ones who wrote it.

As PalZer0 points out we’ve had bigger fish to fry up here than whether or not we can play R18+ games. Most of them have literally been swimming up main street. I was blissfully unaffected up here in Rocky (apart from phone/internet issues and power outages) but boy, just google pictures of the Bundaberg floods.
Anyhow, I’m sure we’re not too far away. Just a little more time.
James Pinnell,
Like any other schedule, that can be subject to change.
Is it because of the nudity or what?
wausjackbauer,
Sif people will play this in the nude.
…oh you mean in the game?
Man, you’re a negative nelly aren’t you mate! :)
Parliamentary sittings are very, very rarely changed on the fly because they require fixed staff requirements and an entire body of legislators available. The pollies like to know when they need to be in the chamber (for important stuff) or when they can be in their offices/eating lunch/whatever.
Quick to pass (non controversial) legislation is put on top to get out of the way quickly, controversial stuff is lower down because it will be bogged in debate.
Take it from me – very few if anyone in the govt cares enough about this to reject it in a large enough bloc, especially after they already committed to passing it and not doing so will basically fuck up a much larger agreement which isn’t worth the hassle.
I was also surprised it wasn’t SA. It’s weird being on the other side…

So, looks like it’s Jarod Bleijie, that’s the Attorney General for Qld. Excellent, his office is about 2 mins from here. My grandparents personally know the guy, so might have to organise a quick meet up if possible :D
Looks like your right Pal, been keeping an eye on the parliamentary goings on, gee they waste a lot of time.
