When Gearbox Software revealed in June 2011 that it was re-imagining its Brothers in Arms franchise, some fans weren’t willing to give the new game the benefit of the doubt. As this petition can attest, they were outraged by the decision to trade a sombre examination of war for the Tarantino-style hijinks on display in Brothers in Arms: Furious 4. Slowly, but surely, these passionate fans seems to be getting their way.
Gearbox dropped the ‘Brothers in Arms’ portion of the title in September last year. The Texan developer has now gone a step further, with company president Randy Pitchford pledging to deliver a new and “authentic” Brothers in Arms title in addition to Furious 4. He did, however, emphasise that the more traditional game remains in the very early stages of development.
As for Furious 4, Pitchford claimed that most players “will not recognize it as ever having anything to do with Brothers in Arms.”
