F2P Command & Conquer looking to revisit Red Alert, Tiberium Sun settings

Command and Conquer

Victory Games have revealed that they are looking to revisit other Command & Conquer settings in the future, if their free-to-play relaunch of Command & Conquer is successful. Speaking to VG247, senior development director Tim Morten confirmed that the team also had plans to explore entirely new fictions within the universe.

“At the outset we’re starting out in the Generals universe with an initial set of three factions,” said Morten. “I think the first things you’ll see come from us will be additional maps, additional game modes and additional generals to help tailor play to your own style. Over time we’ll add a couple of new factions. We’re already talking about different mini-campaigns, and story-based modes that might appeal to players who are used to that more campaign-based experience.”

“Longer term we’re looking at revisiting other C&C universes such as Tiberium and Red Alert, and even exploring completely new fictions. The vision is expected to continue for years and even decades down the line.”

“FOR CHINA!”

Meh, last one of their titles that was decent was Generals, everything since has been crap.

generals sucked
Command and conquer 3 was pretty epic after that it was rapidly downhill tho

I stopped playing after RA3 came out. Will this new FTP model of C&C game still have singleplayer/multiplayer skirmish modes?

Wrong way around.

Generals = Great
Everything Else = Terrible

c&c1 was awesome. Downhill from RA1 onwards :P

Feel free to list every other arbritary permutation of ranking below. Every game had its merits, so any and all combinations are valid :P

I didn’t like Generals mainly because there was no story. Loved Tiberian Sun and Tiberium Wars was pretty good too. Never played a Red Alert game.

AK47′s FOR EVERYONE! YAYYYYY!!

lets be honest – it was all downhill after Dune 2. MULTIPLE UNIT SELECT IS FOR NOOBS.

I didn’t mind C&C3 and enjoyed Generals, everything after was crap though. RA2 is still my favourite, still play it LAN with my brother sometimes.

^ This.

And well, RA2 multiplayer was pretty cool.

So is this Age of empires online, but command and conquer instead?

my fav of the series was c&c 3 no doubt, ra3 was ok but a little hard, the rest are ok, generals being my least favourite. it just seemed so not c&c, i mean, usa, china, iraq? who r these weirdos? gimme gdi and nod any day!

i am looking forward to free, frostbite 2.0 c&c though. very excited. however, please no microtransactions :( i know u wont list ea, i just know it :’(

I’ve enjoyed every single C&C game to date (and dune game for that matter).

Did not play C&C4, I’ve had it on my steam list for about 2-3 years but just haven’t gotten around to it since SC2 and soon HotS, then probably this (generals being my favorite due to all the different general trees in skirmish/co-op).

What’s not C&C about getting an overlord (mammoth) tank!… ^.^
outfitted with machineguns!…. o.o
and with bunkers full of rocket and minigun dudes!? O.O

It’s probably the most viable idea to base this F2P one on generals regardless. Then they could sell generals! Less than 1/3 the work of creating a whole army like AoE online.

The moment EA got rights to all Westwood games everything went down hill…

Oh man, Dune..
I used to spend hours every night playing Dune2k online back in the day.
Awesome games, the Dune games.

surgeon,

Seriously? Are we talking about plain EA here or including all of CnC in this? I don’t know how people can even count Generals as being part of the Command And Conquer or Red Alert series of games. In my mind, it simply was not worthy, it seemed so generic. I did like CnC 3, it has some decent gameplay and nice FMV’s in it, and Red Alert 3 is a bit funny, even if it’s kinda bland. But at least it’s interesting in some ways.

I couldn’t even finish C&C4. It was just awful.

Also: Red Alert 2 was THE best. It had Kari Wuhrer and Athena Massey ftw ;)

I loved RA2, just a brilliant fun fun game. Yuri’s Revenge made it even better. Generals wasn’t bad, I liked it a lot. Need a powerful host computer for LANs but then ran as slow as the slowest computer. We used to make a “host” machine that everyone would connect to and then just make it be a spectator so the games wouldn’t be as laggy when we had hundreds of units crossing the field of battle.

I also didn’t mind C&C3, look good, played good but the one thing they all (all C&C games) had was dodgy AI, especially when backed into a corner.

In RA 1 I can remember the guard dogs running across the map to find and kill my hidden cloaked spy or in Generals a lone AI tractor traversing an ocean area (where we humans could not go) to bypass a choke point it could not get past naturally..

Will this new version work, I don’t know but I think it may go the same way as AOE Online unfortunately.
