A YouTube user named PerfectHandVideos has created an interesting overview of how real-time PC graphics have evolved over the last 14 years.
For full disclosure, I haven’t watched the entirety of the following video as I don’t have a spare 2 hours to donate to such an effort. Fair warning — this video is long. The video uses a series of graphics and in-game benchmarks and Nvidia demos, placed in chronological order from 2000 to today. Catzilla is in there, for example.
There are no ATI/AMD graphics demos in there though unfortunately, as PerfectHand’s computer is running an Nvidia graphics card. It’s very, very long for an internet video, but if you have a second monitor or otherwise not much else to do today, it’s definitely worth a look see!

it’s not very good; for starters it’s made up of almost all benchmarks, it focuses a lot on some years and less on others and seems to skim over the leaps that occur every few years (such as DX11, DX9), could’ve included at least all of 3d rendering, the sanctuary benchmark is at 1h3m through and that came out in 2007.
Really, having someone show a minute summary of every year (or even 30 seconds) of the top 10 best looking games of that generation as well as including mentions of specific technique updates or what was different about this generation besides the resolution.
Now the next gen consoles are out we might see some need to upgrade my pc to keep up with some of the crappy ports that are inevitably gonna be released.

Sense this does not make.
He is saying he is going to need to upgrade his crappy computer to beat the crappy new consoles.
