BioWare planning to send Shepard off with a bang as ME3 ‘Citadel’ DLC announced

Mass Effect 3: Citadel DLC

By on February 22, 2013 at 9:12 am

The Mass Effect trilogy as we know it is over, and BioWare intends to send our hero off with a fitting celebration. The just-announced ‘Citadel’ DLC will see Shepard fighting alongside not only his or her squad, but also all the cast you know and love from the first two games (err, except the ones that you killed). The DLC is due on March 5.

“When a sinister conspiracy targets Commander Shepard, you and your team must uncover the truth, through battles and intrigue that range from the glamour of the Citadel’s Wards to the top-secret Council Archives. Uncover the truth and fight alongside your squad – as well as the cast from the original Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2,” writes the official blog.

“When the adventure is over, reconnect with your favorite characters from the Mass Effect Trilogy, try your luck at the Citadel’s Silver Coast Casino, blow off steam in the Armax Combat Arena, or explore and furnish Shepard’s own living quarters on the Citadel. With unique content and cinematics featuring your friends and romance interests in the Mass Effect trilogy, Mass Effect 3: Citadel offers one final chance to see the characters you have known for years and rekindle romances.”

Eurogamer notes that the DLC will be 4GB in size, meaning that XBox 360 players will have to download it in two separate chunks. Given the amount of voice talent returning for this one final ride, it’s no wonder the file size is ballooning out past normal.

Meanwhile, free ‘Reckoning’ DLC will be available on February 26 (next Tuesday), bringing with it new units such as the Geth Juggernaut, Cabal Vanguard, Talon Mercenary, Alliance Infiltration Unit, and something called a ‘Krogan Warlord’ with a ‘Biotic Hammer’. I’m very okay with this.

Another reason DLC is garbage – so we’ve played three complete games and now for the first time these things are mentioned?

caitsith01,

not entirely certain as to why that is a problem? The series didn’t really have room for that previously its more or less there as an unneeded addition to give people a bit more enjoyment, imho it would have had no place in the original game.

Just wondering why would they mention stuff that had no relevance to the story in the first 3 games…?
Obviously now it has relevance…IMO…could be wrong…wouldn’t be the first time…but to me it would be cruel to show someone a piece of Chocie cake…then tell them they can’t have any…

This sounds disappointing, more interested in that Multiplayer pack.

I imagined “sending Shepherd off” would be a complete, finality to the still un-ended storyline of the still raging overhead Reaper War (You know, if you subscribe to the Indoctrination theory :P)

Mass Effect presents a fairly coherent universe. Part of the game is wandering around exploring it. Yet apparently in three complete games, not once at any time during his/her wanderings at the Citadel did Sheperd see or hear any reference to any of these places, let alone figure out how to get to them. Including apparently Sheperd’s own bedroom.

caitsith01,

Shepard never sleeps, didn’t you know? He’s like the space-aged version of Chuck Norris, only without the beard. (maybe?) He only uses his bedroom to decorate with the intestines of his fallen enemies! Bwahahaha!
