We’ve received word from overseas that 2K will be launching a BioShock Infinite DLC Season Pass, which — as is the custom in this day and age with AAA releases — can be purchased up front to save you around 30% on the cost of three, further individual DLCs.
Information on what the three pieces of DLC you’re buying access for will be has not been detailed, but our press release from the UK indicates that purchasers of the Season Pass will receive the ‘Early Bird Special Pack’ for free, which contains “four pieces of exclusive gear, a Machine Gun Damage Upgrade, a Pistol Damage Upgrade, a gold skin for both weapons and five Infusion bottles that allow players to increase their health, their shield durability or their ability to use Vigors by increasing the quantity of Salts they can carry.”
UPDATE: Thanks to PalZer0 for pointing out the DLC Season Pass is now available on Steam to Australians for $30. Given that we’re being gouged another $10 for having the temerity to live in Australia, games.on.net officially recommends that you purchase your Season Pass through Green Man Gaming instead, where it is only $19.99 (before 2K raises the price).

Please be good SP DLC like Minerva’s Den and not challenge maps or multi player maps.
Fingers crossed!
don’t you dare pre-order
Local pricing is already up on Steam – $30 here while it’s $20 in the US.
GMG has it at $20 for now. Can’t seem to use their current voucher code on it though.
EDIT: Steam store link: http://store.steampowered.com/app/214933/
On Steam it’s $29.99 for Aussies, instead of the US price of $19.99. So if you want it, I suggest going Greenmangaming where it’s still $19.99. They upped the price on Bioshock Infinite to include the Aussie tax eventually, so I think it’s very possible it won’t stay at that price for too long.
… though even if they do bump it up, you might be able to use the Aussie coupon (GMGAU-3J9MF-MUINW) to get it back where it should be.
EDIT: I’m seeing a lot of hate in other places for the Season Pass. I’ve pre-ordered it personally, because I’m excited about the game, and because it’s all single player DLC, which I prefer (Minerva’s Den > map packs imho). I might end up regretting it if the game doesn’t live up to expectations, but I personally like the idea of a Season Pass, getting the full ‘complete’ game in advance. It’s worked out well for Borderlands 2 for me so far (being $24 at the time helped).
From their Facebook/Twitter:
I’m sensitive to DLC concerns, but If you never play the DLC, you will have a 100% complete story experience with Infinite alone.
From GmG Product Page:
- New Stories
- New Characters
- Continue the journey in the sky-city of Columbia, with new locations, new characters, and new weapons. The instant bonus includes four pieces of exclusive gear, weapon upgrades and skins, and five Infusion bottles.
Fucken lol.
Sad that I actually pre-ordered the game, albeit at a relatively cheap $33 price. Guess like always we’ll wait for the inevitable 75% off franchise sale to pick up loose dlc…
Oh and that “exlusive day 1 dlc”, yeah we’ve heard that before, expect it to be 99 cents or so several months from now.
this reminds me of alien colonial marines season pass, NEVER GOING TO preorder a game again, WAITING FOR REVIEWs, i was so stupid!
Maybe I’m the crazy one but since when does it make sense to lay down cash for three unknown DLC products before you even know if the base game is going to be any good?
teufelhund,
Saves money over buying the DLCs individually – especially when Steam screws up and offers a super cheap season pass like they did with Borderlands 2 at one stage. Also, in the case of Steam, you don’t need to worry about downloading the DLCs manually (unlike Origin, uPlay and 360/PS3 games).
TotalBiscuit: Should you preorder videogames?
Yeah, all definitely good points.
Buuuuut, I feel like I’ve always been pretty spot on with my estimation of whether games will be good. I’ve pre-ordered a lot of games, and none of them have been less than an 8.5 (in my internal scoring system).
Aliens Colonial Marines always looked like a shit in my opinion, even when it looked better than it does now (wtf did you do Gearbox???), I still thought it looked below average at best. The same with Rage – there were a lot of game jornos saying it was going to be great and I was wondering what they were smoking.
Last few games I’ve preordered:
Skyrim, Borderlands 2, Xcom Enemy Unknown, Dark Souls (before the resolution patch, because i knew it would arrive), Deus Ex Human Revolution, Guild Wars 2 and Ni No Kuni. I did also pre-order Crysis 3, which I haven’t played yet – loved the first 2 so I’m sure it’ll be good (for me).
No regrets so far… If Bioshock Infinite sucks then I’ll be burnt I guess, but it’ll be a first. Is it worth it financially? F*ck no. With Steam sales aplenty I’m sure just a few months wait will halve the price on most games, but I don’t mind paying good money for a good game… When I was a kid and didn’t have much money, games cost $100+ and I still saved up and bought them, so picking up Bioshock Infinite + all its DLC for $60 on day one doesn’t bother me one iota.
TL:DR Pre-orders definitely aren’t worth it, but I do it anyway.
The software companies have trained people to buy, in a knee jerk reaction, the preorder game + preorder season pass (•Get Day 1 bonuses) = complete game. Somehow they made that the normal way to purchase a game. We use to get that as one game, after we carefully looked over the legit reviews for the game. IMO the cost of a game has been raised by stealth, as people believe they are getting a game and an expansion for their money. It really is brilliant marketing.
DLC, gotta catch them all. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SVp-zIONsrs
Games used to cost $100+ when I started buying them regularly, and there were no online reviews, as there wasn’t much of anything online back then. You had to buy a $25 magazine to get a review, and it wasn’t even very easy to find them. The games were often atrocious both in graphics and gameplay, weren’t available until weeks or sometimes months after release (until the physical discs came to Australia), but we loved them anyway, as there were only a few good games released each year in total.
So back then I’d spend $300-$400 each year and get 2-3 crappy games and a bunch of gaming magazines. Today I can spend that same $300-$400 and get 5-6 AAA games on the hour they are released, plus dozens of amazing indie games, plus hundreds of older titles during Steam sales, all the while getting continuous free video game reviews and information streaming over the internet.
I definitely agree 100% that they are trying to train people to always pre-order, not buy used games, and heaps of little other things in order to get as much money out of us as possible. They’re greedy corporations, it comes with the territory, but personally I feel like I’m paying a whole lot less and getting a whole lot more than I used to.
submariner,
If i may use borderlands 2 as an example here and point out that 2 of the dlc single player campaigns take place after the main storyline of the game is over.
So i view these as REAL expansions.
You are correct in the fact that what you describe does happen, it’s just that SOME games can actually use DLC to not do evil, but to make great expansions.
I don’t mind paying for ones that feel/are expansions to the game in a meaningful way, multiplayer only DLC can go to hell…..
Irrational games never seem to be too money hungry.
Plus there is apparently no MP so I think the DLC’s will be story content kind of different parts to the story or earlier stages in the city.
Not like ME3 were they lock out a character and one mission and make you pay for it.
But separate things that do not have much relevance to the main story but are interesting side stories.
silenceoz,
its not Irrational that’s the problem, its 2K.. they’re the greedy bastards.
Aaaannnnnnd this lady’s and gentlemen is why I rarely buy new games and wait for the GOTY version and by that time I am willing to wait for the on sale GOTY version. That is of course if I still want to play by the time they do all that.
It’s been “ANZ’d” on GmG – $29.99…and the ANZ coupon is invalid on it.
For those still inclined to blind buy the season pass it’s available at non “Fuck you Australia” prices at Gamersgate, GetGamesGo and Amazon (< if you have the whole fake US address doohicky set up)

Edit: And GmG have now made the coupon work on it.
I picked it up off GMG before it was price jacked. Hopefully my purchase is still valid and GMG don’t ask for more money.
Only paid $12 on GMG with discount and digital credits, so im happy :)
