Entry: Here is my entry, a double layered chocolate cake. The games.on.net logo was made out of fondant and the finishing touchs with some chocolate curls and a honey nut crunch.

Entry: Still have my first computer i built for myself from ’96.. Hadn’t turned it on in 10 years, plugged it in the other day and gave it a go after a friend wanted to see what win95 was like.

Found so many old games still installed ive been playing all week.. So glad this never went to hard rubbish.

My favourite piece of hardware would have to be this cheap little Logitech optical mouse. Over the years my computers and laptops have either killed themselves or had been upgraded but the little thing still works.

ENTRY: My favourite piece of gaming hardware that I own is my stock Microsoft mouse that I got with my first computer. It may not have anything fancy like macro buttons or on-the-fly sensitivity changing and the scroll wheel barely works anymore but it still has heart. I used it for the first half of my gaming life and despite not using it anymore I can’t bring myself to throw it out after all the good times we had together.

ENTRY: Instead of a specific piece of hardware, I have to mention my headsets as a whole over the years. They have each allowed me to enjoy my gaming in the best possible scenario – communicating with friends.

From the adolescent taunting and shenanigans in Counterstrike and Unreal Tournament to the introduction to new friends and comrades in World of Warcraft; each new raid kill was accompanied by cheers on Ventrilo, and the occasional singing from inebriated raid members. I think I still have the ringing in my ears from our guilds first Onyxia kill in Vanilla.

In Battlefield, it’s used for team work and defining strategies. Of course, the adolescent taunting amongst friends remains– unfortunately, they always know when I’m sneaking up for their dog tags from my uncontrollable giggling…

So, while games and hardware may come and go, headsets have allowed me to enjoy my games the most.

ENTRY: My netbook is infuriatingly slow for almost anything, even browsing the web, but it has one incredibly redeeming feature – it’s too crap to play modern games. Let me explain. I was raised a gamer so even while backpacking I needed to have the occasional gaming session with my little netbook. Due to the 1 fps I would consistently get when attempting to play any game except Minesweeper, I started using NES and SNES emulators. BEST THING EVER! I haven’t been travelling in years but I still use my netbook daily. Perhaps it’s just nostalgia but I swear those are the best games ever made. I’m about to start Chrono Trigger again. If only Skyrim could be so good.

ENTRY: In 1999, I purchased a Microsoft Intellimouse with my hard earned, and to this day it sits to the left of my keyboard. As my friends purchased new mice with new wizbang features, I was left with the only mouse that catered for left handed gamers.

I’m surprised it isn’t dead after smashing it on the table too many times to count due to noobtoobers at the start of a COD4 SND/Ambush map, or hair under the laser screwing my aim. I thought it would die once when I didn’t realise I was gaming in a puddle of coffee I just spilt. After living in a house where a hundred plus cigarettes got smoked, I forgot it used to be white and not yellow.

Still, after all this time, I can still top a server or two with good old faithful. Pity my 8800gtx holds me back. *wink wink*

ENTRY: The best piece of hardware I’ve ever owned is not something you’d ever expect, yet it is fundamentally the most important. CPUs, GPUs, Mice, Keyboard all get replaced on a semi regular basis, no matter how exceptionally well they perform.

The piece of hardware I value most is something that everyone will have, but that most people neglect to spend any money on. It is something that is fit for a King, and it’s name aptly suits the theme of King.

The best piece of hardware I own is . . .

The Throne.

Not just any chair, the Throne is designed for maximum comfort. It has been described as a spinny couch on wheels. It can comfortably support the weight of anyone has used it. It will continue to serve me well, even as the rest of the hardware I own grows old and dies.

ENTRY: X-Fi XtremeMusic: A Bromance

This is a tale of enduring mateship: two men, brought together by the tedious dinner parties of their respective girlfriends, who formed a timeless bond forged by a mutual love of computer hardware.

The X-Fi was a gift from my only friend who still sees the magic in PC components, when others have grown out of their adolescent fascination with technology. We email hypothetical PC builds to one another to nurture this spiritual connection, even though our lives have conspired to physically separate us.

The X-Fi is probably redundant given recent improvements in onboard sound. But it continued to sit in pride of place amongst components a fifth its age. Tragically, the headphone jack recently suffered a crackly demise. But I couldn’t bring myself to throw it away, as it will forever remind me of the one man who truly knows the way to my heart.

ENTRY: From the moment I bought it, the Gigabyte GTX 560 stood out to me. It was a huge improvement from my old laptop graphics. The smoothness and quality that the GTX 560 allowed for has been the most awe inspiring thing I have ever owned.
And that’s less than 150 words. :D

My Radeon 9700 Pro, on opening it boomed “SWEAR FEALTY!” I thrust the box to the sky and intoned “Sure!” Nestled into his AGP throne he roared; “MOAR POWA!”, a hungry and savagely beautiful silicon beast.

A montage of gaming envelops my mind; aliens, buildings, environments exploding all in perfectly rendered, gaming magnificence. A gleeful gamer, his liege and friend cackling madly.

One day, powering up the Radeon wheezed, “Meji my time, she has come, avenge me”, then the fan slowed to a stop and never started again. Three years it had been an Emperor, it had crushed the pixels, subjugated Open GL and Direct X factions and it anti-aliased, hard, one could even say unjustly, tyrannically so.

That Lord of Gaming was nestled back into his box, now at peace, and was safely stored away. There he rests, in death still the Messiah of Gaming.

As I left the golden room, I glanced back. Amongst the fighting I witnessed a 5-headed teenage hydra battling with 3 of the neckbeard clan as well as thieves running and shouting to snatch the more prized treasures from each other in the monster’s den.
It didn’t matter.
My prize was won.
I had it, a Steelseries Shift.
My first gaming keyboard.

ENTRY: Two weeks ago I built a new computer, and for this new computer I bought a component that will have a special place in my heart for a very long time; a Samsung 840 ssd. Now, the 840 may not have the fastest writing speeds, but my god, is it an improvement over the hard drive I used before. For so long I would press the power button on my computer and leave it to take a shower, or make a coffee and return to find that it still wasn’t ready. I would sit, staring at the screen for unbearable amounts of time, waiting for Word to start. Now… Now I restart my computer for fun. It’s an intensely satisfying feeling to see my computer start so fast, to see programs open immediately. No upgrade could ever live up to it. Well… maybe a top-of-the-line video card…

Almost done mine, going for the written one but I have to some how kill off 8 words. :S Also worried as to whether some of my words count as one or two words, hoping one. lol
