really enjoy lego games, especially with a mate around and we smash through a few levels while having many drinks. but the killer of this game was the cut scenes. SO MANY CUTSCENES that couldnt be skipped. we just wanted to play, quickly, and after a few levels it was enough. still fun to play though

There were character shadows. I don't know what game you were playing, or perhaps you switched them off or something?

Yeah this is a straight-up control pad game. No ifs or buts or apologies. I had a similar experience - loved the game mostly but there were some moments where I was screaming at it. By far one of the best LEGO games out, and I've bought and loved all of the Tt Lego games so far. Can't wait to see what they do next.

That's the thing, as a PC gamer you can be elitist and stick to your KB+M. Or, you can accept that some games are designed around a controller and just play better with them. A 360 controller + wireless dongle is only about $50, pair that with a TV that's set up as a mirrored or second monitor and you don't need game consoles anymore.

I think this is one of those games more suited to a controller.

None of the niggles the reviewer has are apparent to me as I use the 360 pad for this game.

With a game pad, you can also change the camera angle most of the time, some times you will have a fixed position camera, which can be a real pain in the ass (sometimes its hard to get proper depth perception and that can be disastrous when making a jump to some coins or something)

Fun game anyway. I got it from GMG for $10 around xmas time! Score!

They are always infuriating, but TBH that's half their charm. They are hilarious too, which for me always made the annoying bits less annoying. The camera problems are always there, moreso with keyboard than controller play though. For some reason game designers can't work out how to have a dynamic follow camera actually work properly...

If you like LotR and LEGO, don't skip the game due to the minor issues in the review, it's so much fun, just like the Star Wars ones (I skipped Indiana Jones, not my style!!!).

One of the few kids style games I can cope with playing :D

Honestly this sounds infuriating to play lol, I've always liked the idea of the lego games, but have never really enjoyed playing them. Nice review, but I think I'll skip this game lol

mrthumpy: It’s the lack of character shadows! Not even so much as a circular drop shadow so you know roughly where your character is standing or what they’re over while in mid-air.

Hmm! I hadn't noticed, maybe that's part of the problem I had all along!

Yeah, I figured it must be possible, but the fact that it never tells you anywhere that was more my problem!

Also, I should have mentioned it in the review, but I specifically stuck it out with the keyboard 'cause I figured the target audience might not all have controllers, so best to stick with the lowest common denominator. But yes, I imagine it is a LOT better with a controller! :)

I, on the other hand, got it for $7.50 on Amazon, and 100%'d it in around 25 or so hours. I'm one of those obnoxious pc-master-race guys, but for Lego games I'm more than happy to use a controller.
The camera can be painful, though at least they're not completely locked for most of the game, and being able to look around completely in the open world was fun :)
The split screen thing got annoying on a fairly small screen, but I imagine it'd be better on a larger one.

With a controller, it's perfect. My pet peeve is not so much the camera, as after reversing the controls for it; it works fine for me. It's the lack of character shadows! Not even so much as a circular drop shadow so you know roughly where your character is standing or what they're over while in mid-air. Something simple like that wouldn't be engine intensive and would remove some screaming moments (on my part) to JUMP THE HELL BACK UP THAT TREE.

>end rant<
