Dean ‘Rocket’ Hall has no beef with seperate, third-party ‘DayZ Origins’ mod

DayZ Origins

Rocket is a cool guy, but even cool guys might get a bit up in arms when they learn that somebody is making their own mod of DayZand calling it DayZ Origins. And even using the same logo and everything. Okay, even I’m a little bit miffed on his behalf.

But Rocket? He’s cool with it. “The most personally satisfying part of making DayZ has been seeing the cottage industry crop up around it, and watching all this user created content pop up,” he said to Eurogamer. “There are some awesome, awesome ideas in the Origins mod, as well as in other mods like 2017″.

“It would seem a shame to destroy that kind of creativity by me getting upset about the name,” he added. “So my thoughts for the moment are really, ‘Wow, that’s cool,’ and then, ‘Aww shucks, there go my DayZ: Origins plans!’ From my personal perspective I had some plans that involved the use of DayZ Origins as a name and now, if I were to do what I was planning, then it would forever get confused with that [the DayZ Origins in this story].”

“But you can’t encourage creativity on one hand and beat it with a stick with another.”

Rocket previously blasted The War Z for mistreating its customers, a mistreatment that caused him to come under personal attack from friends and family members who mistakenly thought he was responsible.

Bad move IMO, gotta protect your trademark/brand. Like most media snippets regarding Rocket lately, it seems like his comments are all solely devoted to making him look like some kind of good guy.

Screw that monkey…we want Dayz origins

Warz Origins has a good ring to it. Good choice!

lol is EA listening; but a mod is that, how on earth can anyone have a beef with a mod; if it’s better it wins, worse it fails :)

brimlad,

Agreed.

I think Rocket has handled all this amazingly. With confidence. It is a old way of business competition, before the suing and crying started in the worlds industries, when it was “may the best man win”. Rocket doesnt care because he knows he is superior and can develop a superior game.

Thomas Edison didnt really invent a thing, he saw what other people did and said, “may the best man win.”

phewcha: Thomas Edison didnt really invent a thing, he saw what other people did and said, “may the best man win.”

Thomas Edison electrocuted children pets in his shop window, to try and discredit Nikolai Tesla’s Alternating current system for electricity because he was trying to push his own direct current, Edison is not the best example of may the best man win.

^ this everything he has said lately has felt like PR.

spooler,

I meant he was the superior one and came out on top.. but.. You know your right, its a very bad example as he took all of his ideas from other people and made a life from it. I guess Edison is like DayZ Origins becoming the biggest thing ever…

I am ashamed, I wrote it quickly, I am not to be blamed. First point still stands.

… I think.

Edison is more like the WarZ (Except the war z wasn’t able to convince everyone that DayZ is bad for elephants)

I believe it was Tesla who was using Direct Current and trying to show how dangerous AC was by electrocuting elephants and such

Wrong way around. It was Edison who was an advocate for DC electrocuted an elephant using AC to try and misinform people about how dangerous AC was.

Just looked up the wiki, you are correct sir. My apologies!

All good, no need to apologise. :) Easy enough mistake to make.

I doubt many are going to care about a mod of the DayZ mod after the standalone DayZ comes out.
