Blizzard offering free StarCraft 2 name changes by way of apology

Name Tag

Blizzard have always intended to offer a paid name change feature when it comes to StarCraft 2, but new work on their plates including the development of Heart of the Swarm has meant that this name change feature has slipped under the radar a few times.

To apologise for this, and to tide you over until it arrives, the company is now offering another free name change that you can take advantage of in your Battle.net account. “The small percentage of players who used the free name changes that we previously offered, the introduction of Battle.net Battle Tags, careful consideration of how character names will work with Battle Tags in the future, and our increasing focus on completing StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm all contributed to us deprioritizing the Paid Character Name Change feature,” wrote the team.

“The fact that we didn’t keep you updated when we deprioritized the feature was a mistake, and we aim to do a much better job of keeping you informed in the future.”

“If you’d like to change your character name, log in to Account Management and choose your StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty game license. On your game license screen a “Character Name Change” button at the bottom will initiate the request. After confirming that you’d like to change your character name, log in to StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty, and you’ll be prompted to assign your character a new name.”

Are people still playing this?

…no.

Nobody is playing it.

There are definitely not hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of people playing it every day.

I mean locally, gon members, not South Koreans..

I play it semi regularly still, generally custom games and the odd team game, I’m pretty average so 1v1 often leads to me getting mad at myself when I do something dumb and lose lol.

Didn’t they offer a free name change back when people complained about not knowing their names were permanent or something silly like that?

Apologies for the sarcasm! But so often “are people still playing this?” is interchangeable with “urgh nobody cares about this”.

I’m still playing and this is great news! :D

mearehear,

I think people just watch it now.

No, I was actually considering reinstalling it, and was more curious if there are players about still or not. I think it goes without saying there is players world wide, so I didn’t think I needed to define it.

I picked it up on release and played singleplayer mainly as I was a bit daunted by the online matches. Wouldnt mind trying to dip my toes into it online again but over the last year I can’t remember any much forum activity popping up for it so was purely just curious. I would rather play with “locals/gon guys” casually then play competitively against randoms. I guess I can see it take the other way as you did,

hmm I buggered that quote completely

I’ll fix that for you! Yes, I think there’s a few players but it’s not as popular as it used to be at launch, I definitely agree

mearehear,

Hah +1

Sometimes when I get home drunk I think of firing up some SC2, then I think about how badly I get beaten, get super scared, and play something else.

Tim Colwill,

I did a good job of messing up my wording too lol!

ooshp,

Ha yup I don’t know why, but the pressure of it gets to me and I chicken out , yet I can line up in a serious as hell grid of 35 guys in iRacing and keep my cool, when there is actually much more “face” to lose there if you take out a heap of other drivers. It’s funny how much a game can get to us like that really.

I still play every now and then. Sort of comes in waves. I’m in bronze league and I sometimes I win a whole bunch of matches and get into the top 10, even top 5. Then get pummelled from then on, get angry and don’t play it again. These days I pretty much only play it at LANs for a quick 2v2 or something to that effect.

Well went and reinstalled it, now to let the AI kill me a bunch so I can remember how much I suck :D Was going to do the name change, to match this name I use everywhere, but seems I did it last time lol

If I ever get past playing with the AI I will leave a post in the forum section to see if any of you guys want a casual game or two.

Btw, Last time i played I was running under WinXP 32bit, compared to Win8 64bit now, the game performance is drastically better!
