Aliens: Colonial Marines reveals PC requirements, Australian price gouge

Aliens: Colonial Marines

Here at games.on.net, we love two things: PC gaming, and reasonable prices. Put them together and you don’t have Aliens: Colonial Marines, which may have released its PC specs today but also revealed its inflated Australian price: $30 more than everybody else is paying.

Buying the game on Steam will cost you $79.95, while US and UK players only have to pay the equivalent of AUD $49 and $48 respectively. Thankfully our pals at Green Man Gaming have it for a very reasonable $49, and there’s probably some sort of mad discount code floating around the site too. We are of course a partner of Green Man Gaming as we outlined here, but that doesn’t mean you should pass up a bargain!

In any case, you’ll still need to check out those PC requirements — and here they are:

Minimum Specs: Operating System: Windows XP SP3. Processor: 2 GHz Intel Dual Core Processor. RAM: 2GB RAM (XP),2GB RAM (Vista). HD: 20GB free hard disk space. Optical Drive: DVD. Sound Card: DirectX 9.0c compatible. Video Card:NVIDIA GeForce 8500/ATI Radeon HD 2600 (256 minimum).

Recommended Specs: Operating System: Windows XP SP3/Vista/Windows 7. Processor: 2.3 GHz Intel Quad CoreProcessor. RAM: 2GB RAM. HD: 20GB free hard disk space. Optical Drive: DVD. Sound Card: DirectX 9.0c compatible. VideoCard: NVIDIA GeForce GTX560/ATI Radeon HD 5850 (512 minimum).

Other Requirements: Initial installation requires one-time internet connection for Steam authentication; software installations required (included with the game) include Steam Client, DirectX 9, Microsoft .NET 4 Framework, Visual C++ Redistributable 2005, Visual C++ Redistributable 2008, Visual C++ Redistributable 2010, and AMD CPU Drivers (XP Only/AMD Only).

Only 2GB of RAM? What will I do with the other 14 in my system!?!?!

I DEMAND MY PC BE FLOGGED DAMNIT!

But yeah, pretty low specs really!

EDIT: hehe I can edit :D

Cheaper to buy this at EB and you get more stuff.

Sega’s checking up on whether the SHARP Stick preorder bonus offered to Steam preorders is going to also be available to EB.

It’s actually cheaper to buy it at EB? By god, that’s saying something. It completely foils the usual publisher excuse for price jacking on digital services to keep retailers happy.
Sega, go off yourself.

Picked it up from GMG. Silly me missed the 25% off pre order code though. Still, it’s cheaper than other places.

Ozgameshop has it for $38 if you are cool with waiting for it to be mailed out.

I’d recommend everyone wait until the reviews are in on this one before rushing to pre-order…

That does not compute… errrrr….you’re under arrest!

Seriously though, I’ve bought so many games since BF3 came out and have not played ANY of them. I have to draw a line in the sand until I can kick my BF3 addiction! What’s wrong with me? I’m like a possessed school girl addicted to One Direction, it’s completely senseless and shameful!

Hope you other peeps enjoy the game, let us know what it’s like!

PS. Price gouging is for suckers, we’re smarter then that!

Yeah i’m not making the same mistake i did with the last AvP game.

The MP is rather fun from what I’ve played of it at EB Expo.

cheapest at big w for $58. But that is just for the standard edition. Depends whether you think it is worth $10 for a few extra things. I say hell yea bring on CPL Hicks!

P.S. Is anyone actually going to bother to fork out $118 for the collectors edition?

GON should let us enlarge these darn thumbnails! :D

Looks like I’ll be buying this game from Russia again.

Dear god, the apes are learning English!

Game looks pretty MEH; the campaign used to look fun until they just turned it into a pretty bleh action horror affair. They said no hud but now there’s a hud, and the idea of co-op/3 AI partners was really fun until they took it out and just made it a boring ‘shoot all ze aliens’ affair.

The MP too is just a boring asymmetrical affair (Dino D-Day and Primal Carnage both failed with this, why do crappy TDM again?) with the addition of the carbon copy of L4D mode which may make the game worth buying at $20.

I bought a PC with 2 gig in it not long ago, it was just back in 2003…only 10 years ago…..I’m getting old.

But hey my current machine has 2 gig on the video card (just wanted to try out the edit option).

$38
http://www.ozgameshop.com/pc-games/aliens-colonial-marines-limited-edition-game-pc

Though you have to wait the customary 7-14 days delivery.

$35.37 for the cd key version (normal)
http://www.cjs-cdkeys.com/products/Aliens%3A-Colonial-Marines-Steam-CD-Key.html

$46.13 for the limited edition

Both of these are fairly cheap and the cd-key gets delivered within a couple of hours but i have had some troubles with them in the past. Namely, being given russian copies of things like operation arrowhead and saints row the third. So i can’t highly recommend them but i’ve bought stacks of games through them and most of them have been fine.

rapid101,

what you mean the apes are learning english? im entitled to my own opinion. don’t call me an ape

I’m neither here nor there on this but I think it was being implied that you seemed to be ranting and the thought process you were following not particularly well structured..

Edit… Because I can!

@ashigaru

Games have been using only around 1gb – 1.5gb of RAM for like the last 8 years. 2gb seems like BS to me.

hmm, im all for an optimised game but obviously the PC version hasn’t got much love in the port. Woulda been good to atleast add some dx11 features, aslong as the game itself is good i don’t mind.

It’s just a bit sad a PC release doesn’t feature dx11 in the recommended specs these days as much as it should. As much as next gen consoles will only really bring gaming up to what a modern pc can do, it’ll feel like leaps and bounds in a way because of how things are lol
