Total Warhammer expected in 2013 as Creative Assembly acquires Warhammer Fantasy license

Total Warhammer

Speaking as a massive fan of the Warhammer Old World, the announcement hours ago that Creative Assembly have acquired the rights to the Warhammer Fantasy Battles IP is excellent news.

Described by the company as “a dream project”, the marriage of the team behind the big-name strategy franchise of Total War and the, er… big-name strategy franchise of Warhammer seems indeed to be something that should have happened a long time ago.

“The incredibly rich and detailed Warhammer world is something we grew up with, and has left an indelible imprint on us as both designers and gamers,” claimed Creative Assembly’s Tim Heaton, while hooting on a party whistle. “We’ll be doing the Warhammer universe justice in a way that has never been attempted before.”

Games Workshop is understandably similarly excited with the deal, which will no doubt be resulting in a metric buttload of money for them. “We have enormous respect for SEGA and Creative Assembly and have felt for a long time that the combination of the enormously rich setting of the Warhammer world, and their stunning development talent is a match with huge potential,” said GW’s Jon Gillard, spinning in his office chair. “Now that we’ve managed to bring these two giants of gaming together it is safe to say that some truly amazing products are going to be unleashed as a result.”

The first game in the new series is expected “beyond 2013″. Which is a vague release window at best, but hey! Roll with it.

I suspect I will throw much money at them.

I’ve been waiting for this since Rome Total War. Seemed like a hugely obvious thing to do. I shall be throwing money at them as well. This has the potential to be absolutely amazing. Mark Of Chaos did alright but the Total War guys so it a lot better. Please be good!

Does this mean an online version on Warhammer Fantasy???
I always wanted to play it but the community was too small where I live and…well….I’m not into painting models :P

What a terrific start to the day!

hmm .. co-op campaign mode? ooooooo YEAH. So glad they fixed their synching issues finally.

Maybe these guys can do it right. A warhammer game with total war style gameplay would be amazing.

Mother of god.

Warhammer + Total War = There really Is a Father Christmas :D :D :D

They already did a few games like this (Shadow of the Horned Rat) and others, then they just stopped making them.

Then there was Mark of Chaos more recently.

Can’t wait for this!

xviper,

Creative assembly actually know what they are doing with this sort of game though, so it may actually be good.

Oh HELL YES.

This could only have been better if it were Heroes of Might and Magic Total War.

Was just daydreaming yesterday about a new Warhammer Fantasy video game. I was thinking Dawn Of War meets Mark Of Chaos but this is a million times better!

I’m going to put up a discussion article in the forums in the next few days for my prediction in what the game will involve or entail, and the potential factions and balance issues therein. What we should see, what we want to see, what we dream of seeing!

Yeah, not really excited tbh. Mark of chaos was good enough to be a rome/warhammer conversion (massive bugs aside). Tell me when they are making an actual PC version of the table top, THEN I’ll be excited ;D
