The War Z

By on December 5, 2012 at 7:47 pm

The War Z sends word today that their game has official left alpha and is now in beta. What’s the difference? Well, there’s new playable characters, clan chat and tag support, additional purchaseable store items, and unlocking the remaining final section of the Colorado map.

Now that the alpha is over, the previous tiers of Survivor, Pioneer and Legend are no longer available for purchase. If you do want to get into The War Z, new packages exist at $15, $25 and $50 respectively.

What’s The War Z all about? Find out in our big ol’ preview.

This game is a scam and should not be reported about unless it’s revealing that it’s a scam.

avant,

Couldn’t agree more. Images put up by the devs to lure people in are extremely misleading. Dreadful, dreadful game.

If you’ve unfortunately bought this tripe, paypal/credit card companies are reversing charges if you let them know that “the described product was not delivered” or “significantly different to the described product”.

Eh murdering people with flashlights was pretty amusing while it lasted.

can i get a bit of background on this? why is it a scam etc
definitely need an article on this

Yeah more info would be nice also if this is the case a real article about it would be warranted. At least these people provided a link.

Sounds like a troll to me and the poster of the comment said he lied about it. http://youtu.be/Svd-p3-CURk

he said he lied about it because he was worried about the call a *fake* lawyer threw his way.

Basically this game’s developers are incapable (for whatever reason) of making this game anywhere near what was actually advertised. They’ve become increasingly slow with updates and have terrible communication. They promise much but actually deliver very little. No its not people just being impatient. They are continually moving their goals further and further back. Things that were meant to be released in Beta have now been pushed back well and truly into next year. They wiped despite the fact that they haven’t fixed item duplication or server hopping, so everyone already has what they lost back again.

I can’t say I believe everything Devin says, but I’m sure there are a number of truths in it. Them abandoning the project if they aren’t making enough profit (and that being quite a large amount) is something I definitely think is true. Either way this game is extremely boring and has almost no content. Yes its ‘Alpha’ but there has been very little added to the game and it doesn’t seem anything worthwhile will be added any time soon. Instead of adding more map, they should have fixed the map they had, which has rocks that kill you when you get too close and windows that shoot you through the ceiling allowing you to get into inaccessible areas. Its utterly full of hackers and there is no way they’ll develop a decent anti-cheat or have enough money to afford a third party one. They should definitely not have released the game in this state. I’ve stopped playing and I’m just trolling around the forums until something decent happens. I’m not holding my breath.

been getting a bit of attention on reddit. I can’t be bothered finding links, but just have a search there. r/games and to a lesser extent r/gaming would be a good place to start.

I wonder how many of you in this thread who are sledging the game have actually played it. I haven’t so I’m not going to out and say it’s shit, youtube videos seem to show a decent amount of content and i have friends who enjoy it.

For some reason WarZ attracts bandwagon haters like no other game, it’s actually interesting to see all the crazies come out of the woodwork whenever it’s mentioned. Barely anyone who rants about it seems to have first hand experience.

I just went and read that thread, the guy is a douchebag for multiple reasons:

* let his moderator account be compromised and then cried after he was punished for it

* cried hard enough that they told him to just GTFO

* blamed it on the developers

* claims they ban frequent players so they will rebuy the game, offers zero proof other than his word (which is worthless to me, this is the internet)

* claims he was banned and offers a recent activity statement as proof… there’s nothing to say that account has any link to his WarZ account or even that it is legit other than his word

* acting outraged over developers saying they’ll shut down production if the game isn’t successful enough to support the staff

* acting outraged that an engine they already owned was used to make the game, he states that camera angles, weapons, mechanics and art were all redone.. what the hell else is there? Should we start crying every time an engine gets used for more than one game?

* Sergei is responsible for climate change (you see where i’m going with this?)

That’s all I can be bothered with off the top of my head, the guy obviously has an axe(apparently axe is not a word, mirin the spell check we have here) to grind and he’s using the pre-launch dayz fanboism hatred to vent and try and obtain some kind of fucked up moral high ground and to attack 1-2 people at the top of the company who he blames for his own problems… that thread is 100% worthless.

I actually feel bad for the company, they’ve provided something which (from the footage ive watched) is very similar to DayZ but possibly with a little more content and a few differences (both positive and negative) and half the consumer world seems to be trying to take a shit in their living room for even trying.

Makes me ashamed to be a gamer, what ever happened to supporting OPTIONS? I guess now i know why every game is popping out simplified skill trees and mechanics, people are retarded and actually want LESS choice.

Wouldn’t it be great if you could just go back and EDIT your other comment? :P

In other news, really glad I didn’t buy into this game from the reports of everyone else, will just keep waiting for the DayZ standalone I figure.

I’ve played the game and I’d say that it is true that its not going to be as advertised.
for a start its not an MMO any more then BF3 or the DayZ mod is.

Its also hacked to the shithouse.

eg: there is a ‘radar’ available which shows the location on-screen and on a 2D mini-map of everything your client knows about including and most importantly other players 500m away.

no local servers also means players from our region not buying the game aren’t missing out.

I haven’t played the game, my friends tried to get me to buy it, but it didn’t seem like that much fun. I then read quite a few reviews and most of them pointed out it’s gear heavily towards a “pay to win” model which I’m not a fan of. Interesting to see what happens from here though.

Shame that the game itself is a pile of crap.

Determined to give the game a fair go, seeing as it was in alpha, i played it extensively, in the hopes that it would get better or i would find some reason to continue playing. Sadly, that did not happen.

TIME FOR SLAGGING

The game has no direction, is frustrating to deal with and is missing so much very basic functionality that it makes for a very unrewarding experience. I think i gave a more in-depth review in another War Z topic so i won’t go into more detail but the game itself is plain awful. If you honestly enjoy this game, you either haven’t played any better games (understandable and forgiveable) or you genuinely enjoy supporting awful games and would be better suited to society if you spent your day watching http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1yCtH2xUBXg.

James Pinnell

So, after all the furor on Jamie’s piece, he was right then?
