SOE’s President John Smedley isn’t just famous for his ability to headbutt through three feet of concrete, but also for his zero-tolerance stance on hackers.
His Twitter account reads like a hate-letter to people who would hack in his beloved PlanetSide 2, with comments like this one: “Haruhi at artificialaiming.com was just banned. All 3 of his accounts. Goodbye you scumbag. Find a new hobby or get good at the game.”
Asked if they could cross-reference hacker names with people in the forum, Smedley replied “we don’t need to cross reference anything. Use it.. we’ll find you. we’ll find your family. we’ll hunt you down.” A few hours later, he added: “Just to a make sure people know I was joking – we aren’t hunting down hacker’s families. Someone thought I was being too aggressive.”
“I happen to personally think people that cheat in an online game where it impacts others are scumbags,” he finished. “Your opinion may vary.”

nope… my opinions exactly the same :) i wouldnt hunt down anybodies family though…
No, but I wouldn’t mind if someone kicked the hackers in the balls every time they thought about hacking or cheating :P
Advertising a hack site and banning a hacker’s free account. Yeah that’ll show them. I’m pretty sure they only know his account names because he makes streams of himself playing games like this. Well done to the PS2 devs for signing up to a hack site and watching their streams. Best way to catch hackers. Ever.
Yeah calling out the hackers is an awesome idea….
if you want your game totally screwed over.
just ask the WarZ devs how it went when they did it.
lol @ trying to take on artificialaiming. They’ve been around a long time. They ban one hack, a new one is made the same day.
Good luck.
mind you, it’d be a great way to test your system against hacking. Call them out, wait for influx of hacks, counteract them.
Also be a great way to advertise your hacks for sale, it worked for IGE back in the day.
This will just make cheaters more determined/ entertained.
Maybe if the game wasn’t ‘free2play’ they might actually care about losing their accounts.
So now the hackers are taken care of for the time being, now we just need to find someone to kick of all the douche admins……. *Looks at node staff*
Reset modem for a new IP -> Make new email -> Sign up a new account with said email. -> Play. Honestly, nothing changes and Haruhi gets back to hacking in minutes.
It’s not like they have to buy a new CD-Key like in other games since the game is F2P anyway which makes the idea of getting caught a laughing matter.
Winning a war against hackers is not done by banning them – while I suppose it does help, one must know their enemy and fight an unending battle of whack-a-mole while trying to stop the hack clients from working for the game in the first place.
Oh and just last night on Brigs server this one speedhacking TR MAX held The Crown for the TR all night, my first encounter with a hack so far in Planetside 2.
Agreed, this was a silly move on his behalf. “OMG suck eggs, i bannzed you!” … banned person grabs a bunch of mates and starts spamming the servers in retaliation, more people join in… congrats, you’ve now just made the situation 10x worse.
