Fusible is reporting that a bunch of new domain registrations seem to indicate purchasers of Metro: Last Light can look forward to receiving a free copy of the original.

The domains GetMetro2033free.com and FreeMetroGame.com show up in THQ’s nameservers, and are backed up by an entry in the Steam database for “Metro 2033 December Giveaway” with a description of “ProofOfPrepurchaseOnly”, created on November 10.

So! If you haven’t played the original Metro 2033 and the sequel interests you, wait up on pre-ordering until December. You’ll probably get a better deal.

Awesome! Though, honestly…. I’m not rushing out to make a preorder for this though given that the release could be years away.

I am so SICK of this as a preorder bonus. If I’m buying a sequel, generally it’s because I played the first one. It’s also a really cheap way of ‘rewarding’ preorders. Seems to be the big reward for digital purchases more and more these days.

I’d far prefer something else from that developers library I’ve never played, or something from the Publisher’s library that is related to the game you’re buying. If that meant I bought Last Light (which I will, oh gods in heavens and mother barry I will) and got STALKER (which I own) I’d be much happier about that as there’s likely to be far more people receiving it that would never have played it.

If it was a gift you could give to someone else I’d understand, as that would get more people interested in their latest game (although not really a bonus for yourself). To be fair I wouldn’t expect much else from THQ atm. Bring on Last Light though, I am ready!

Cas Bitton,

Years away, or not even made. Hopes are still high though!

Murray Hibble,

Look at the pre-order bonus that steam is doing for Tomb Raider, currently its not even a guaranteed bonus, its just a “get your friends to buy a copy to get ____” deal. That I don’t like, but some times they have nice stuff, and a free hat in tf2 is always a good laugh. Shops will do anything they can to get you to pick them over the competition; a free game is just one way of doing that. I play at lot of sequels having never played the first.

colsey,

Gifting it to others would increase the player base…

So my reward for preordering is the jolly gift of increase the developer’s player base and giving someone else a game to play?

What a crap reward! GIVE ME STUFF.

At first I thought that getting an original game with a preorder was cool but now I dont feel the same way, it should at the least reward a digital preorder with any game from their library or at least a selection of several games in case people already own the first game in the series.
