Mass Effect 4 will use Frostbite 2 engine, handed over to BioWare Montreal

Just yesterday we posted that BioWare were looking for input on what you, the fans, wanted from Mass Effect 4. Today, BioWare have pulled back the curtain on some of the groundwork they’re laying down, and it’s looking very interesting.

BioWare Montreal Studio Director Yanick Roy revealed in a BioWare blog post that the Montreal team would be the one to take the reins from the core Edmonton studio, although they clarified that Casey Hudson would remain the Executive Producer overseeing the project. Yanick promises that the Montreal studio will be “very respectful” of the heritage of the series established so far.

Also revealed in the blog post is the fact that the game will use EA’s Frostbite 2 engine as its foundation, “enhanced by many of the systems that the Dragon Age III team has already spent a lot of time building”. Intriguing.

Frostbite 2 > Unreal Engine 3.
One of my wishes has come true for a new Mass effect.

Now what about Steam, EA? :P

 

Interesting.. makes sense but it would’ve been more exciting to hear they would be using unreal 4. Meh, still haven’t played ME3..

 

Mass Effect 4,… wut?

 

New studio, fresh slate. I’ll be interested to see how it turns out on a new engine by a new group of people. But we all know its gonna be so damn pretty :D

 

All I ask is this:
If you’re going to put player choice in the game, have it damn well mean something and have it actually affect the universe in someway, even on a minute level.

 

What I want – less linear, more open world gameplay.

Be interesting to see what the physic’s-based particle weapons in the ME universe do to environments within the game when its on frostbite2…

still, not sure if want.

 

i like, the frostbite 2 engine is great, the cut scenes will look amazing with it!

On a side note…still need to get ME3!! i am a fail nerd :(

My only gripe with Mass Effect was the lack of texture and model detail in most of the game.

So much for thinking they were finished with the series lol why am I not surprised.
