XCOM: Enemy Unknown announces two new DLC packs for single-player

XCOM: Enemy Unknown

Many speculated that XCOM: Enemy Unknown’s DLC couldn’t be far off, and indeed 2K and Firaxis have put paid to all those rumours by today announcing the existence of not one but two DLC packs.

The first pack, the ‘Elite Soldier Pack’, is free for anybody who pre-ordered the game or purchased it at launch, and runs at $7.75 for PS3 and PC players or 400 MS points if you didn’t. Players with this pack will instantly receive a new recruit “inspired by the original X-COM: UFO Defence“, an “iconic soldier with the blonde, flattop hairstyle”. Deco packs for aesthetic upgrades and colour customisation including tinting are also included in the pack. The Elite Soldier Pack is available right now.

The second pack, the ‘Slingshot Content Pack’, provides a new series of linked Council missions in which gamers will meet “an enigmatic Triad operative”, as well as divert the course of an alien ship and slug it out in the skies of China. Three new maps, a new squad character and new customisation options are included — but the price, and release date for the Slingshot pack are yet to be revealed.

PC players naturally have the best version of XCOM available, because it’s moddable to make it just the way you like it. Check out the top five mods here.

Doesn’t seem to be free for me on steam, anyone else ?

Not free for me either. But that Elite Soldier Pack is 100% comsmetic isn’t it? I’m not sure I’m too worried.

If you preordered, it will be on your account already.

It lists it as already purchased for me.

…Incredible that they would bother price gouging us a meager $2.75
Don’t think I’ve really ever used these colours or that god awful haircut from my pre-order version anyway…this really isn’t worth it.

They had me at blonde Flattop, my favourite soldiers always had that style (ie most) but I wasn’t picky. Damn I really need to pick up this game.

I pre-ordered via green man gaming and got a steam key from them. I can still purchase it on steam, but its only when I put it in my ‘shopping cart’ that I saw I could only purchase as a gift.
When I right-click on XCOM in my library, and select ‘view downloadable content’ it tells me I have “DLC1″.
I do have the ability to tint the armor of my squad members. And I do have that silly hair-do as an option. But I never got a free guy who came with that hair.
And I never saw any specialised armor upgrades named ‘Hyperion’ and ‘Reaper’. Not sure what the 3 new bonus items are either.

stoibs,

actually the colouring is quite useful in the field.

for me:
Assault: Red
Support: White
Heavy: Blue/Purple (Depends on how I’m feeling)
Sniper: Black

Makes life ass loads easier when your sorting through your troops.

Hah I do the same thing. My snipers are dark blue in light-looking armor. Supports are white and Assault/Heavies are black.
