Steam Achievements for XCOM: Enemy Unknown hint at future DLC

XCOM: Enemy Unknown

Firaxis have been keeping mum about the possibility of any DLC for XCOM: Enemy Unknown, but some canny users on the 2K forums believe that they’ve found some hints hidden in the text for the Steam Achievements of the game.

Although the text for many of the achievements is hidden until they are unlocked, TheSpaceMushroom uncovered the descriptions. There’s requirements such as ‘Complete Deluge’, ‘Complete Furies’, ‘Complete Portent’, and even specific ones such as ‘Complete Deluge without activating more than 2 valves’ and ‘Complete Confounding Light with more than 3 turns left on the timer’.

So what are Deluge, Furies, Portent and all the others? Well they sure aren’t in the game right now, and they sure seem oddly specific for hidden descriptors. The current theory is that we’ll see maps and missions by these names in some upcoming story-based DLC, and — even though we’re year to hear anything from 2K or Firaxis — it would seem a pretty safe bet. In the meantime, if you’re still on the fence about XCOM, why not read our fully sick in-depth review?

I’d rather they were extra content for the normal campaign rather than any kind of standalone deal.

I was really hoping they’d do DLC. Like yurtles said, an addition to the main campaign would be awesome. Even expanding it to another planet in our solar system would be fun, if not too ambitious (ie UFO series).

I look forward to the DLC with bated breath.

It’s gotten pretty high review scores, extra DLC or even a sequal is probably already on the cards.

I found this on another news site. It has a mod that unlocks some features that Firaxis never got time to finish, it unlocks some extra gameplay options that could make the experience more challenging and random. http://www.pcgamer.com/2012/10/17/xcom-mod-second-wave/
