Players with higher FPS reporting better rates-of-fire in Planetside 2

Word comes to us this morning via PCGamesN that players with higher FPS are reporting better rates-of-fire in Planetside 2 than their fellow players on lower frame rates. The videos below show both third- and first-person comparisons of the same gun being emptied simultaneously by two different players at different frame rates, and the higher FPS player is noticeably quicker than the lower one, reloading seconds ahead by the end. It’s not clear how this will affect damage but it’s concerning nonetheless.

um wow….that’s a huge difference

Wow that is a terrible glitch. How do the devs even code that sort of a bug? I just don’t get how ROF is even linked to FPS.

probably a missing delta time condition or a bug in the conditional statement itself, or a client/server sync mismatch. either way… damn….

Why not leave a svn checkin while ur at it.

I’ve noticed plenty of games doing this, as someone who generally has anywhere between 5-35 fps in most games, it really is evident.

Was it back in ye olde days of yore in Quake 3 Arena that the physics or movement calculations were bound to the framerate? I seem to recall there being an optimal framerate to get the largest possible jumps in the game.

Damn I thought I was just really good at this game, turns out I’ve just been firing more than everyone else :(

lol so when i get this game, make sure i have the best pc built so my fire rate will destroy people with poor pc’s :D

And the people with poor pc’s will sit back and watch you get crushed with an asian and/or american with an equally good pc but better ping :>

Crushed by*

God this no edit button is infuriating

Considering this is less than three months from launch, I’d think this is pretty bad…

Dead Space has a similar thing with the game engine being directly tied to the fps…

def going back to vanu now lol , hopefully gets fixed , there patching almost daily so i hope they figure it out.

collect0r,

The original is too funny to edit. Crushed with an asian lol.

This has been sorted in the patch released today! :D
