MechWarrior Online open beta rescheduled for October 29

mechwarrioronline

MechWarrior Online was expected to go into open beta earlier in the month, but after closed beta testers raised concerns about stability and balancing, the doors were kept firmly shut. It’s been a busy few weeks of patching and tweaking for the development team, who now believe they’re ready to let wannabe pilots into the fray come October 29.

Despite the beta delay, interest in the free-to-play combat sim is high; Founder’s Program purchases have brought in over $5 million since the scheme launched in July. MechWarrior Online lets you take on the role of a mercenary and participate in the transmedia franchise’s official canon, which it re-enacts in realtime; it’s expected to launch in full during 2013.

Be careful though…

currently as it is the recent patch to the beta made hit detection ABSOLUTELY bonkers especially for those of us with significant latency…

ie: ALL OF US in australia.

the interpolation or the hit confirmation essentially went south and suddenly we can’t hit anything not standing still without massive amount of lead (note that laser are not hitscan, they r still confirmed based on the server position information so they are affected as well)…

previous to this patch we had to lead our shot as well but the lead required was consistent and not as massive and unpredictable as it is now..

No clue on what is the status of their work and if they will do something about it when open beta launched, though logically since it was much better pre patch (it has it’s own share of problem but at least back then it was possible to get accustomed and reliably hit someone moving at high angular speed) then it should be fairly quick to just revert it back for the open beta.

The patch we were using is two behind what the devs are using.
Oben beta is no where near a finished product, think of it as an early start to your path of Medium Lance glory!!

@Bronzed kind of expected though, as this is the time where they start experimenting with different things to find best results

Damn no Edit button…

But also requires feedback from players when something goes south, so hopefully they’ve been discussing it with the devs on their site!

Honestly its a lot more like MehWarrior. Its really not that exciting. I’ve sunk quite a few hours into it and its just boring as batshit. I’ve played similar games and quite enjoy World Of Tanks from time to time, but this just seems slower and less interesting than that. Which is saying something, because grinding for tier 8+ tanks isn’t the most exciting thing I’ve ever done, especially getting my tier 7 thrown against tier 10s. MechWarrior is very nice to look at. CryEngine is always beautiful. Perhaps more localised servers would make it more enjoyable, but currently I just find it quite underwhelming and am quite disappointed.

yeah its flawed but hopefully will stay around and get better i really want it to succeed
im just finding it hard enjoy at the moment

time will tell

I actually had more fun with it than WoT,

primarily because i absolutely enjoy tinkering with my mech (even if i can’t quite tinker it as much as say Armored Core).

that and dismembering other mech is much more fun than WoT to me… there’s something incredibly satisfying when you blast someone and see this:

watching someone had it’s ammunition explode and gut the mech slowly never gets old for me.

That and one can actually kill any mech with the lightest mech around provided the opportunity shows itself.
