EVE Online announces 18th expansion: Retribution

EVE Online: Retribution

CCP have taken the covers off their plans for Retribution, the next EVE Online expansion and the 18th to hit the game in its nine years of life. Retribution will bring with it a new ‘Crimewatch’ system that enables you to more easily see the choices other players have made — so you can react accordingly.

Dovetailing in with this nicely is the improved Bounty Hunting system, which has “been recreated to offer means for every EVE pilot seeking redress beyond what they or CONCORD can or will administer”. Putting bounties on other players? Sounds like a plan.

The final piece of the puzzle comes in the form of new ships — a new solid mining frigate, “with better yield and ore capacity”, and a new selection of ships for small craft combatants. Frigate-class ships will also be generally overhauled.

Man I love this game. Thankyou CCP.

I never played EVE but always liked the look of it.
I guess i was always afraid of how much time I’d need to give it.

Can those who play regularly say how many hrs you play per session?
Like, can you play for an hr at a time for example, or is that a waste of time?

You can easily run some missions in an hour or go mining, or even some PVP. The big stuff happens on Level 4 missions, plexes, fleet battle and so on but just about every part of the EVE experience is optional, just get in and do whatever you want.

an hour or less per mission though, like say Lvl4 generally means you are already seasoned with decent setup for that lvl of mission (decent doesn’t mean you need bloody lvl 5 in everything and T2 gears or ships, but it does mean that you should at least be able to equip basic necessity like various armor hardener or shield hardener etc even if it’s just the T1 variant).

When you first start (and until you get used to it and get a better ship and gear), a Lvl4 can easily take multi hour to complete especially if you are new at the mission structure and pattern, even with Eve survival database since more likely than not you won’t be able to afford losing too many battleships or even BC for the attempts before going bankrupt.

Granted that eventually you can do it in 15min or less depending on missions once you have a powerful ship setup like HAC or what not and know what you need to kill in each mission structure for fast clocking, but the road to get there isn’t exactly short…

A fair warning, EVE lets you do many things really… but as always this is under the assumption that you CAN PAY FOR IT and have the training to utilize what’s necessary for that activity, something which depending on what it is can take anywhere from a month or two to half a year or more of real time if your pilot is fresh but at least configured to start as close as possible to the goal.

You want to go PvPing from the start? go ahead, just be ready to explode and lose your ship and possibly your avatar too, and naturally to pay for their replacement.

The bounty hunter system definitely needs to be improved. Everyone knows its pointless as the bounty’s friend just pods him and collects the cash.

I’ve played EVE for last 7 years, an sadly, it isnt the game it once was.
CCP are starting to “mainstream” the game to make it friendlier, an far FAR easier. They are removing any risk from Highsec, an cracking down on peoples freedom of play

(global flagging)<- trying to attract wow players

Providing miners the ability to stay safe at all times without having to actually be at the PC (47k EHP macks) 100% immunity to gank. Mining is one of the safest jobs in EVE, as long as you the player pay attention, miners didn't want that, they demanded to be allowed to bot an play afk, CCP gave them that. Now mission runners are screaming it's unfair on them to have risk, so CCP gave them global flagging.

There are a number of things they are changing, so if you like to play the "modern MMO lite that we have today, EVE will start to be more attractive.
The Learning curve is almost flatline, an CCP holds your hand in many things.

I myself was reported last night for killing 2 Hulks (miners) in 0.5, they demanded I be banned cos I cheated an killed them.

Of coarse, when asked did they have local up an did they pay attention to what was happening around them, they said we were afk, "noob" it's how you mine….LOL

This is today's EVE player so if that sounds fun, go for it :)

I personally play now just to kill HS'ers, but my playstyle is fast being crushed.

Mining afk in 0.5 hahaha. What are these poor fools going to do when hulkageddon comes.
