EA Maxis confirms March 7 launch date for SimCity in Australia

SimCity

Australians looking forward to playing the sandboxy, glass-boxy, disaster-ridden city simulator SimCity now have a date to look forward to: March 7, 2013. Our New Zealand compatriots and anybody in the United Kingdom or Europe can look forward to receiving it a day later for no reason, on March 8. Can somebody say ’24-hour head start’?

Unfortunately, our friends in the United States get it a whole two days earlier on March 5. Because… well, there is no reason. Staggered release dates (especially of a PC game) in this digital day and age are just bewildering. But hey, March 7! Write it down.

It is so the online DRM they bundle with it works without having too many people try and choke the servers at once :P…

I’d like to choke the inventor of DRM.

Hope they don’t want any sales in Australia…

Such a pity I have an internet connection so I can stay online while i’m playing games, chatting to friends, reading emails and general other online multitasking.

Looking forward to this!

looking forward to it I think, but staggered release dates definitely get me slightly mad.

Meh, 2 days is nothing. I’m just itching to get into the game itself. Dunno if I’ll get it on release though, may wait until it’s a smidge cheaper.

Such a pity that your only concept of “right” and “wrong” is based around “is it technically feasible to do this?”

No money from me, EA. Well done on stuffing up another beloved franchise.

ive been playing simcity 4 in anticipation…

caitsith01,

Yeah man, if you feel that is “wrong”, feel free not to buy it. But whatever, i’ll be enjoying it.

Looking forward to it! Love SimCity, 4 is still my favourite city builder, hope this is as good or better :-D

Staggered release makes sense, just look at the launch of Diablo 3 where the number of players trying to get in at launch stopped anyone from playing.

well i’ll be playing it March 5…. hmmm maybe the 6th with Timezone…. but DEFINITELY before legit purchasers

Yeah, generally it’s pretty puzzling. I’m assuming the online nature of the game is part of the reason in this case.

neodewolf,

Congratulations on being a hardcore anarchist warez kiddie hax0r, or whatever reaction you were hoping for with that post.

ooshp the kid is clearly a badass. Better watch yourself…
