Earlier in the month we learned that DICE officially disapproved of a mod which removed the colour grading from Battlefield 3, and warned about the possibility of bans. Now it seems the community’s confusion over that position has resulted in a vague capitulation from the developer, who will be adding a console command in the next PC patch to disable the colour grading in the game.
“There will be a console command for disabling the color grading entirely in the game included with the next PC game client update,” writes Mikael Kalms, senior programmer at DICE, on the Mordor HQ forums. “We believe that turning it off gives no major competitive advantage/disadvantage. IRNV scope and a few others which turn the image into greyscale or greenscale don’t work properly without color grading and will look real ugly.”
“There will be no in-game UI for turning it on/off. We are unlikely to handle support questions and bug reports regarding stuff that happens when color grading is disabled.”

GOOD, finally… some common sense.
It’s almost like that take it personally.
Haha they do seem rather reluctant in the release notes :B
Yeah not to mention they are claiming what they are doing borks things like IRNV when the original mod didn’t affect it.
DICE seem to have a very high opinion of their baby when in reality its not as great as they think…
Especially when the Warfighter team confirmed the rego delay in BF3 is a problem they’ve been working hard to fix…
They’re putting the console command but not fixing known issues with it?
Eh, I don’t use scopes with green- or grey-scale, but still, bit slack much?
too little too late noob dice
For those who have NFI, what is the colour grading / mod all about?
The article doesn’t explain it at all…
ahh, never mind clicked the linked article
also no way to edit your comment is lame
jungleisgreen,
It really does seem like that. I guess their art guys were kinda bummed out that no one liked the colour filter everything idea.
bugalugsmcscruffin,
It was community suggested, and something they don’t personally support. I guess it was more of a bow to community expectations. I can see why they wouldn’t want to touch the bugs (unless someone manages to hack it some how, which wouldn’t surprise me)
Yeah DICE you ‘noobs’, just give up already. We complain about anything you do anyway. :P
Theres like two 100 page threads on the EA UK bf3 forums with complaints with the colour filters and bad contrast ratios with screens of what the game would look like with out the blue filters and pitch black shadows, and the game looked amazing it just baffles me why they would do something like add filters to a game. they said they wont change it…., until someone makes a hack that makes their game better…soigh
