CDProjekt’s ‘Cyberpunk’ is now ‘Cyberpunk 2077′, new details released

Cyberpunk 2077

The world of Cyberpunk has been detailed in a new release from CDProjekt Red and GOG.com, which not only officially renames the game to Cyberpunk 2077 but confirms the story will take place in the sprawling future metropolis of Night City and surrounds.

Well-known places from the Cyberpunk 2020 setting will appear, including Afterlife, Forlorn Hope, and a “combat zone completely taken over by gangs”. As for the storyline itself, we’re reassured that it will be multi-threaded, non-linear, and based in a world where “advanced technologies have become both the salvation and the curse of humanity”.

“And of course,” CDProjekt say, “a cyberpunk reality cannot be deprived of murderous steel – guns, rifles, implants, dozens of gadgets and other varied pieces of equipment needed to survive on the streets of Night City.”

The only thing we’re missing now is a release date — stay tuned to the newly-launched official site for more word, where an opening blog post riffs on the difficulties translating a pen-and-paper ruleset into a video game.

Oh wow!

I literally just pressed post on my forum thread about this :). Oh wells: since there is no delete button on the forums I will just leave it be.

The Colwill is quick, I will give him that…

Cyberpunk’s Night City! Forlorn Hope!
Now there’s some names from the past!
The fact that a decent developer is working on this means that I’m very interested indeed!!

I for one am a little confused and feel like i am missing out.

That’s all we know I’m sorry! Those are the only names they released, along with the phrase “well-known places”.

I’ve actually never played Cyberpunk, but you might enjoy our regular Mr. Wilkes dissection of the announcement back in July: http://games.on.net/2012/06/d20-friday-night-firefight/

yea i went back and wiki’d that, then sat in the sad realization that its an RPG based on works that im very familiar with… and had a sad…

be interesting to see where they go with it, and what they incorp into it. but will be getting it thats fo sho’

doh. I immediately associated that name with Cops 2170: the power of law, one of the single worst games I’ve ever played.

Given that every single descriptor for the new game fits with Cops aswell, I so so hope thats the extent of their commonality.

Most anticipated game!
