Brendan Keogh:
And then there are DayZ’s real-time sunsets, less uplifting and more choking, slowly sapping all the colour out of the world, leaving you engulfed in a harrowing blackness.

I have to insist that those are not DayZ's real-time sunsets. Those are ArmA2's real-time sunsets. DayZ has absolutely nothing to do with it.

DayZ is a nice idea and I like it too, but I disklike when it's beeing glorified for all kind of things that are simply part of the original game and in no way an achievement of the mod. Credit where credit is due.

'I just want to feel like one more visitor in a world that would continue on with or without me. '

Likewise.
A lot of them have environmental stuff down pretty well(although I want more violent storms). But in games like Skyrim, the world revolves around you still, nothing will happen without your input. Aside from dragon attacks killing your favourite blacksmith... who is never replaced.
But noone will freeze to death or starve or die of old age or be born. Bandits wont raid towns. No new buildings will pop up or old ones fall to ruin. There are no other adventurers out slaying dragons or armies marching. Nothing will happen without you doing it.

...Maybe I will just play some more Dwarf fortress.

Oh and I like sunsets and stuff.
