Multiplayer unlock and levelling system of Black Ops 2 revealed

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2

Treyarch’s David Vondehaar has explained the unlocking and levelling system of Black Ops 2‘s multiplayer in a community forum post on the official boards.

There will be 55 ranks, earning one unlock token with each level, and the ‘create-a-class’ option made available at level four, along with a dozen free bits of equipment for you so you don’t have to blow the four unlock tokens you’ve earned if you don’t want to.

More equipment, perks and scorestreaks are slotted in from levels five through ten, whereupon it starts to settle into a pattern. Vondehaar describes the pattern as follows: “At every major rank change, which is every 3 levels, we give you a gun and usually “something else” as a bonus for reaching a major rank change. In general, it goes like this. Level 10 – Weapon + Something Else. Level 11 – Equipment (either lethal or tatical). Level 12 – Scorestreak.”

“This pattern then repeats through all 55 levels with some minor statstical variations or bonuses when they make sense and because the math can’t be perfect.”

This is why i don’t play modern multiplayer shooters anymore…

Between the game’s release and the first weekend after that, people will have unlocked heaps and be ahead in levels.

So when i fire it up the first chance i get after a weeks work to unwind, then proceed to get my ass handed to me by people who aren’t more skilled , but just have played more hours sofar than me, i end up wondering why i would bother.

Screw unlocks and levels in online fps!

I honestly don’t think I could be less enthusiastic about this game.

Iunno man, I think I can go even lower.

Go awayyyyyyyyyyyy Treyarch

uuggghhhhh

Have they added more than five fucking class slots yet? So tired of that artificial scarcity…

Considering how quickly MW3′s multiplayer died in the arse I’m considering avoiding this…

really excited for this! but hope theres not dedicated servers :/

WTF you dont want dedicated servers!!!! are you mental ill?

trex0321,

You’d best be trolling, son.

tobbygnome,

Implying Treyarch don’t make better games than IW. MW2/3 were both beyond terrible. COD4 was debatably acceptable, as at least that was their first modern shooter. WaW has been the highlight of this generation, WW2 is where its at. BO was mediocre, but still better than MW2/3 and I’d go as far as to say COD4.

korbain,

lol. nah honestly i dont mind cod at all. but i play a lot of online games. sometimes bf3 is too stressful though :( looking forward to moh warfighter, already prerordered! playing a lot of gotham city imposters too. i didnt like mw2, mw3 is better, too many hackers though. nearly every other game theres a hacker :( what cod is is constant, if u liked the package they offered in cod4, but want innovation, ull grow to like it less and less each time. those that liked it and wanted more think its great with the constant refinements. I am looking forward to black ops 2, but yes i would like dedicated servers :)

What’s with this unlock token rubbish? Just give stuff to me as I level up. The whole currency thing is a dumb idea.
