Half-Life 2: Episode 2′s gnome spotted in Battlefield 3′s mountains

Gnome Chompski in Battlefield 3

By on September 6, 2012 at 1:00 pm

The irascible Gnome Chompski, first spotted in Half-Life 2: Episode 2 and then later in Left 4 Dead 2‘s Dark Carnival level, has been spotted buried in the snow at the top of Battlefield 3‘s new Armored Kill map, Alborz Mountain — having presumably arrived there following the events at the end of Episode 2.

Sharp-eyed Redditors were apparently the first to spot the tiny traveller, presumably left in as a tip of the hat to a talented fellow developer by DICE and not, as some might wildly speculate, notice of an upcoming EA/Valve buyout/merger/love-in.

“as some might wildly speculate, notice of an upcoming EA/Valve buyout/merger/love-in.”

If EA and Valve come together in any form whatsoever I’ll be devastated.

Valve can feel free to grab DICE though…

I can see Valve buying out a portion of EA, or at least getting their distribution rights, but I don’t see much else happening. I just thing its a little easter egg.

I like this, it soudns to me like dopefish. Developers have respect for each other and aren’t like their publisher overlords.

But is it fully destructible?

Ah the key question

Valve asset used in a game with 3 in the title? Half Life 3/Team Fortress 3/Left 4 Dead 3/Portal 3 confirmed.

Could this be EA finally giving up on Origin and understanding that they are losing huge amounts of sales not being on steam? I don’t see any reason for Valve to buy EA and EA couldn’t afford Valve. Maybe Valve is buying DICE? One could always dream.

it has nothing to do with EA, its just a little egg DICE have put in lol if anything they’re prob showing their respect to valve no matter whats going on between them and EA.

BF3 coming to Steam?

This my feeling as well. Pretty sure a company’s business decisions are made by its executives/shareholders and not by which easter eggs the developers insert.

HL3 confirmed.

You folks need to stop watching Sherlock and just take something as it is and stop building the most elaborate back story you possibly can muster.

Wow, Internet, wow…
