Competition Time! Win a Gigabyte GeForce GTX 660 Ti Windforce 2X

By on September 11, 2012 at 10:02 am

You may remember that last month we did a thorough hardware review of the Gigabyte GeForce GTX 660 Ti? And that we described its “excellent performance while remaining whisper quiet” and called it “solid value for money”? Well, now we’re putting our money where your mouth is, so to speak — and giving one away.

How do I enter?!

Much like most of our contests here at games.on.net, it couldn’t be simpler! All you need to do is leave a comment on this article explaining, in 150 words or less, why you desperately need to upgrade your computer with this card more than anybody else. Maybe your computer is currently wheezing and coughing up blood, or just belching smoke every time you fire up something more demanding than Solitaire.

With the end-of-year release-avalanche fast approaching, you’re going to need all the graphical power you can get. Now’s your chance to tell us why it should be you.

How long do I have?

You have two weeks! The competition is open from now until 11:59 PM ACST on Tuesday, 25 September 2012.

Please sir, I am but a poor, lowly technician/shoe shiner struggling with my poor lowly computer. I want to show my poor children the joys of seeing Crysis at ultra high detail one day, it’s my last wish that before I expire to visit the quire invisible that they should no longer look down on me for having such a pitiful computer, that they can puff out their little chests with pride and say “daddy’s computer is awesome!” That would leave a tear in my eye and make my gaming life so much more bearable. Please give me this nice video card, if you do I shall pet it, and feed it, and water it, and say really nice things to it, and cuddle it to sleep every night.

Signed vtackler

(doesn’t actually have children and isn’t planning on dieing any time soon – may actually cuddle video card though)

My graphics card gives me a technicolour frozen screen when I watch YouTube in full screen mode! I’m too stupid to remember to not go full screen and too broke to buy a new card.

I currently have a GTX280 which sounds ok until you realise this card doubles as a heater and requires a similar amount of energy as the sun. Long gaming sessions are currently leaving my with a power bill equivalent to the Australian aluminium industry. Save the planet kill my GTX280!!

I need this so I can feel more of a man again when sized up against my wifes new high end PC. Help me Obi-GON-kenobi, your my only hope….

I don’t need this card, but I want it as it looks pretty and stuff.

“Is that a jet?” a child asks its mother, “no dear. We better get inside, hurry now.” exclaims the woman. Humming so fierce, violent, depressing, children flee the gusty streets, cower home, and hide under the bed. Father battens the doors, for the storm is coming. I don’t recall the first storm, they say “it be four years this eve”. It seems every week father repairs and refortifies the front of the house.
No one dares step outside once the wind picks up, for the echoing harrow of the “beep” heeds the final warning, those left in the open, knocked to the ground from the deafening “beep” are whisked away into a vortex never to return. I fear this is the last storm as elder Bios reported in communion the impending end, critical temps, ancient artefacts which obstruct his display. Any moment blue fog will drown us…”Windows has stopped responding…”.

I say to you today, my friends, so even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in graphical excellence.

I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the size of their graphics card but by how they use them.

I have a dream that one day every valley shall be explored, every hill and mountain shall be flattened, the rough places will be made rougher, the radiance of the graphics shall be revealed, and all flesh shall be rended in all its glory.

I have a dream today.
That this graphics card will carry me on to gaming splendor!

That’d be a nice upgrade to my ancient 8800GT which is really showing its age now.

No, it’s not because of its measly 512MB ram or lack of DX11 support, it’s because it has 0x WINDFORCE cooling. This thing has 2X?! Holy crap, I need one ASAP.

Why I need this card:
I game in a bathtub full of warm gravy lined with crispy Bacon strips. This is my permanent home and I am unable to leave it in fear of a dog eating me and my pet Llama Steve. He is a good Llama; he eats treats and doesn’t deserve to die! He even does my shopping for me! He went out and got me a computer with a GTS450! It ran well for a time, when the computer started to not be able to play games well, the gravy got cold and the bacon went rotten. Please help me; I need to continue playing The Old Republic and Battlefield 3! I am begging you, if you don’t help me, help my pet Llama Steve; he deserves to watch someone play good games.

Well,

I currently have a 7600GT which is amazing at playing the latest games (at lackluster resolutions). That’s all fine & dandy you say, but a close family member of mine has just been diagnosed with a blood cancer, so my spare $s are going towards her treatment. The GTX 660 Ti would make a huge difference in my gaming & probably help me deal with all the rest going on.

Cheers

I need this card, because recent conversion from “no dependants” to “new dad” my finances no longer can be put toward that ever noble pursuit of higher end graphics and faster framerates.

I am attempting to build my own computer as a hobby project, unfortunately between buying textbooks for uni and paying the rent there its not much spare cash to go round for projects such as this! Please help me with a graphics card! It will be well loved and well used :)

Due to a rather ill thought-out deal with everybody’s favourite dirty dealer (Satan), I am bound to never buy another videocard again, whilst my current card still works. This was in exchange for raising my 4870 from the dead, during a dramatic moment when I thought it was at last, never to draw another triangle again. Unfortunately, that tricky bugger fixed it a little too well – it just won’t die. It’s cursed to power on. I sacrificed my card into slavery – it can never pass on. My friend, who had shown me so many beautiful things – bought on the release of STALKER CS, it’s drawn everything from Planescape: Torment to The Witcher 2. And now it burns, every moment in excruciating agony. But it is not allowed to die.

Please GON. You’re my only hope. Only a gifted card can let my 4870, finally.… be at peace.

GON…please think about my poor wife!

Her aging gfx card(radeon 4350) isn’t running some games too good! I feel for her as she seeing Guild Wars 2 running pretty on my PC where as it looks like a dogs breakfast on hers!
She’s tried grumbling and moaning at the PC and is now taking it out on poor ‘ol me! How can a husband go happily adventuring when he’s got a harpy riding his back! :o (shhh, don’t tell her I said that)
She recently lost her job and now her birthday is comming on the 1st October! I’d love to tell her that GON wishes to support her GW2 adventuring and especially her Chef crafting profession by providing her with a very nice n shiny GTX 660 pressie from the GON crew! I bet her in-game food will provide even better buffs than ever before!
She’d be real happy knowing that GON is behind her and she’d then be even happier knowing that it’d make me rather jealous as her gfx setup will be better than mine. (hmmm…I’m having troubled thoughts after reading that)

As they say “A happy GON wife makes a happy gamer husband’s life!”

no one needs this card, consoles have ruled for years and graphics cards from 3 years ago still run the best games

donate the card to an australian developer that will push the card to it’s limits

My Dog ate my graphics cards.

Oops…I was so passionate about helping my wife that I went waaaay over the 150 word limit. Here’s my ‘edited for the comp’ response!

Pfffft! My wife says I ain’t seeing any “business time” until the video card in my rig has been replaced with something that doesn’t keep her up all night with its constant whirring, buzzing and blowing… hang on, we’re still talking about graphics cards right?!

I’d like to win this, not to use for myself – But to give to a good friend.

He’s become a father recently, and while he loves gaming, money’s tighter, his PC is starting to age now (GTX270) and can’t really push a lot of current games. Time out is pretty rare when caring for your firstborn, so it’d make a big difference to him to enjoy those few moments he does get to himself now.

He’s been asking me about advice recently for upgrading his card, and it’d be pretty cool if I could hand him a new one as a gift!

PS: I’m happy to provide photographic evidence as proof I have actually given him the card, should I win it :)
